Seriously, what is that thing?

I should probably one-day get aroudn to reading John Byrne's FF, because I've never gained an appreciation for the FF like everyone who's read that run has.

Is there an Essential book of that yet?

It also turned up in the Korvac What If? issue.

You are not mistaken. Johhny Storm retrived it from a pocket universe(or something I think) with directions from the Watcher.

The Ultimate Ultimate Nullifier is in the last of Ellis's Gah Lak Tus trilogy. Reed made it out of the energies of stacked universes.

It's a lame piece of comic-book technology, best relegated to the depths of FF trivia.

From what I understand it was
that Reed used the energy of a newborn universe, just before it's big bang. An immense amount of energy but by doing so he also destroyed that universe, hence why he was so hung up about making the nullifier in the first place

Do not settle for the Lackluster Nullifier. Sure you'l lsave money in the begining, but you'll just end up repairing it all the time and replacing it.

Yeah and also he was hesitant to provide a weapon of such power to SHEILD and Fury.

Not to be confused with the Supreme Instigator, either.

Yeah...it was basically a deus ex machina to defeat Galactus in his first appearance. Even Byrne who worships Lee and Kirby's FF run admits to it being a cop out. I think Earth X explained it as an aspect of Galactus also.

Yeah. It's basically...

A gun that shoots universes as shells.

I think it's actually just a cigarette lighter, and that Reed is just an excellent bluffer.

First appeared in Fantastic Four Vol.1, issue #50 (May 1966) of the Fantastic Four comic book in which Reed Richards produces it as a last ditch effort to stop Galactus from destroying Earth.

The Ultimate Nullifier has the ability to completely and utterly eliminate any target the wielder chooses (through violation of the law of conservation of mass), and if the wielder's mind isn't powerful enough, the wielder himself. In the hands of a being with an extremely powerful intellect, such as Galactus, the Ultimate Nullifier can destroy entire timelines from beginning to end. While its origins are ancient and until recently unknown, it has been revealed that the Ultimate Nullifier is actually an aspect of Galactus. The Nullifier resembles a small, hand-held metallic device with no apparent functionality, although it is likely similar to Galactus himself in the respect that it appears differently to different people. In fact it is the only known weapon in the universe capable of inspiring fear in Galactus.

The Ultimate Nullifier is generally kept within Galactus' Worldship (Taa II) though at times Galactus has been known to carry it aboard his spherical starship. In the rare instances the Nullifier has been stolen or shown to be kept in other locales (such as the Fantastic Four's headquarters) later stories have shown the Nullifier to have returned to Galactus' possession, usually with no explanation. The reason behind this inconsistency may have been revealed in the Abraxas saga. In the story, Galactus demonstrated the ability to effortlessly recall the Nullifier to himself at will, even from the grasp of Abraxas, the universal embodiment of destruction.

It was a sad Freudian metaphor.

It was the creators' subconscious saying that a small package can still pack a big punch.
