what the freak?
it started off good, but right when I saw Ron Jeremy, the production value went down for me by 60%
and Defoe as a transvestite?
it just ran off the rails about half-way through.

The only thing about the movie that really pissed me off was some scene with Defoe looking like he was crying at a crime scene, and shooting his gun in the air. It was possibly the most retarded scene I've seen in any movie.
Other than that, there was nothing about this film I didn't love

Greatest movie ever. You know it. Just admit it.

It is a great flick. But nowhere near deserving of the cult status it's developed in the past two years or so.
True Story, Swear to God. I was talking with some retard that was swearing (lying) to me that they saw it in the theatre in their hometown (of Bumblefuck, NJ). I think they wanted to seem cool. Boondock Saints was only released in 5 theatres for 1 week in January of 2000.
The Writer/Director of Boondock Saints is apparantly a HUGE douchebag. There's a great documentary called 'Overnight' that's all about him and his quick rise and immediate fall.

I loved it when I was a teenager.
I got older and realized it's actually kinda stupid, but with a couple good parts.
Then I saw Overnight, and laughed my ass off. Now I have no ass.
i liked this movie..
BUT.. they are making a sequel.
Last I heard it was in seemingly permanant creative limbo.

the only thing that hurts that movie in my eyes is the annoying loud cop that defoe is always busting on. he's played by Bob Marley, who's the number one stand-up in maine, and he is fucking TERRIBLE as an actor, a comedian, and a human as far as i can tell.

I used to LOVE this movie when it first came out, (being from Irish Catholic from Boston) and I'm glad to say that I was one of the first few people to see it after its release to DVD. I do agree though, that after over 6 years now, it has lost its luster. I used to watch this movie almost religiously, every few days, and hell, I still use my old screen name which dons the BoondockSaint(and special numbers) so I know whats up.
After watching Overnight, I do see how one man can truely become drunk with power and lose his career, family, friends, bar etc. Its a sad tale, but oh well, if Troy Duffy is a dick, then he's a dick.

Yes, but does that mean we can't at least enjoy his one good movie? His art?
I mean, can we not enjoy The Ring Cycle, particularly The Ride of the Valkyries just because Richard Wagner was an anti-semitic piece of shit?

well, to be fair to Wagner... most of Europe throughout history were anti-semitic...
but, my comment had nothing to do with duffy's art.

(paraphrase)
Girl: You killed my cat? Why?
Rocco: I thought it would help bring closure to our relationship, bitch.
Rocco: I can't walk to the store to buy a pack of smokes without running into nine guys that you've fucked!
Rocco: We could kill everybody...

i had a ton of people whose opinions i respect go on about how kickass this movie was, and i have never been so let down in my life. (including the superbowl last year)
i will never forgive this movie for showing me defoe as a transvestite. his acting in general was fucking horrible, and that whole THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT sequence made me cringe.
i wouldn't even give it a going off the rails at a half way point. it derailed about 10 minutes in and just got worse from there.

Well, I saw this about 4 yrs ago, expecting greatness and I found out it was utter shit. Never understood what everyone loved about it. More power to them, but I just don't think it is worthy of its praise.

I saw Overnight with the intention of seeing Boondock Saints after. But the guy was such a huge asshole, I couldn't bring myself to watch it.
That guy had everything handed to him on a platter and he screwed it up. Sad in a way, but I don't think he regrets it at all, so it's not really that sad. Boondock Saints should've been better than Goodfellas after the way he talked about himself.

I'll I've ever seen when I've watched this film is another inept "Tarantinoesque" crime film. I also don't understand the appeal.

Maybe it's my Britishness, but I always found the idea of Defoe playing a homosexual detective who gay-bashes his boyfriends to be highly amusing...

Dafoe was way over-the-top in just about every scene he was in. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. I did enjoy the film, though.
