View Full Version : So I had a job interview this morning.

I think I nailed it. As some of you know I haven't "worked" in close to 5 months now. After losing my previous job for bullshit reasons I cashed in my 401K for a pretty nice sum. Not the brightest thing to do, but I didn't have much of a choice. So all these months I've been getting on quite nicely but had no luck in my job search. I pretty much applied for everything short of McDonalds or White Castle and barely a peep.
So then I get a call Friday morning from a company I applied with the night before via email. They wanted me to come in for an interview today. It's in my field (technical writing) and the pay and hours would be ideal. So I went in and charmed the shit out of the guy and things went very well I think. To be honest only once in my life have I not gotten a job I've interviewed for (I'm an excellent bullshitter). That job was working for a Hollywood video store when I was 18 which was strange because I think I was more qualified than the manager who interviewed me, but oh well.
So hopefully I'll hear back from the guy soon and I'll be back to working the 9-5 life again. I love you guys a lot, but this sitting on my lazy hairy fat ass all day at home is getting old.

what is technical writing?
it's when you write what the "Man" tells you. BTW, I am trying to code what the "Man" tells me to.
Also, good luck Brad!

Thanks Taki. It's at a little manufacturing company in the Blaine/Ham Lake area. A little bit north of me in Spring Lake Park up Hwy 65/Central Ave. Technical Writing is kind of weird since there are a million different definitions for it. The best that fits me is from Wiki:
Technical writers create documentation for a technology. Their responsibility, like graphic designers', is to effectively communicate a message. Technical writers are responsible for writing text that is helpful to its intended audience, accurate, readable, and accessible.
My last job I held for years was basically creating and managing documents for ISO 9000 (quality) purposes. So I would go out to the shop floor at the company and observe them building their product and document in my notebook every step of the process while taking pictures of each step with my digital camera. Then I would go into my PC in my cubicle and arrange the pictures with the verbiage to make something of an instruction manual of sorts that gave a universal way of assembling the product. A foolproof design that anyone could walk in off the street and follow the steps to build the products. Then each of these would be catalogued and I also organized blueprints and other documentation.

Damn it all to hell. Flonk told me the same thing the other night in my drunken rant about quitting smoking. I'm beginning to think the weight of the world actually IS on my shoulders.

I'm tired of the man holding me back. That's why I spent much of this time off to write what I think will be the greatest comic book in the history of the known universe. And thanks, Clint. I'm crossing my fingers.

Good luck with those taxes.

Good luck with those taxes.
Shouldn't be too bad (I hope). I was smart enough to have them take an additional 15% above the 20% they automatically took out for taxes. 35% going to taxes with getting married this year and all else I should get fairly close.

Good luck, Brad! I've been let go from two jobs, once the day before I proposed to my wife, and the 2nd time was 4 days before my wedding! Nothing is worse than unemployment and being desperate for a job.

worry not my conservative nemesis! I'll still hang here, just not so much during the weekdays. Still nights and weekends. ;-)

It was really, really, REALLY fun for like the first month or two of sitting on my ass and doing nothing but writing but damn, now it's just crazy. I think I'm driving my wife and kid nuts being home in the mornings too.

Had a buddy a year ago who didn't put anymore away when he cashed his in and couln't figure out at the end of the year how he could possibly owe hundreds of dollars. He's still paying that one off.
