No Steve McNiven Civil War covers? The list fails.

i disagree with #1 and #2.... however, I can't think of my favourite covers right now.

X-Men #190

What is the story here? That is Mystique and Ice Man, I assume. Is she saving his life? Are they lovers? I am curious.

The X-Men one is better than that Spidey one, though.

That is an AWESOME cover. Spidey actually looks creepy in it. When you see it, and in spite of the fact that there's no blood or direct signs of violence of any kind, you just know that something bad has happened there.

She was giving him a CPR of sorts, though she was being a bit naughty too. :p

I agree with you completely!

Hmm, I see a trend here-- if it's painted, it makes the list regardless of whether or not it's a good cover.

wow! there sure are a lot of hideous covers in the top 50!

The Nextwave #11 cover should have won that, easily.

I can't believed they missed all that sweet McNiven Civil War covers, and prized the Turner variants. Civil War #4 was just beautifull.

ew, a greg horn cover?

09-22-2006, 12:06 PM
Eh. That's a lousy top 10, some of the other 40 were way better than those. I prefer some of the Runaways covers, and definetly those great Captain America covers over those. I thought McNiven had the better Civil war covers compared to Turner too. And about the the Criminal covers by Sean Phillips? Geez...

What a totally random list.

Fluff article.

none of the top10 are good designed covers

Nextwave #11 should have won that all the way!

If you can't appreciate a Warren Ellis book with a cover that says "Mark Millar licks goats," you're not a real comic fan!

that was really their top 50 list? it looks like they just put all the marvel solict covers in a bucket & picked them at random. What's so great about those Thing covers? Or the She-Hulk ones for that matter?

I have a bit of a (purely professional) man-crush on Del'Otto, so I'm glad to see his work in there, like, 6 times.

I like the first Thing cover, but not the second. Top 10 was pretty uneven though, a third were great, a third were good, and the last third just didn't deserve to be there. Can't say I was all that wowed with the #1 pick.

Don't like the #1 pic at all. Wouldn't even make it in my top 50 list.

I've always thought a good cover is one that succeeds in making you want to buy the book, even if it's a book that you don't read and/or like. Here's a list of my top 10 covers of 2006 in no particular order - all of which i think fit the bill. Quite a few are books that i don't read.

First: How are none of Adi Granov's covers on that list?

Second: How is the Ult. Spiderman 100 variant not on the list?
