Wow, I've held off on everything but the first Superman movie in anticipation of something like this. But, is Superman II the Richard Donner cut in this set, or will that be something different? I thought the new Superman II DVD would contain both versions...

The Richard Donner version of Superman II is being sold separately, but I'm sure that it'll be included in the 14 disc set.

Well, time to go sell my body on the corner AGAIN! This is really going to hurt.

I'd like to have this set still, obviously, cause here I am posting on a comic book board, but I think I'll have to go with the Donner Superman II first.

Originally, I heard that a movie-only edition of Supergirl was going to be included on the Ultimate set. I seriously doubt that not having Supergirl will be a deal-breaker for anyone, though.

What??? Say it isn't so! That's like having the Ultimate Lea Thompson collection and completely ignoring HOWARD THE DUCK.

For shame! Tsk, tsk.

I know what I am asking Santa Claus to bring me for Christmas.
It is really not that bad of a deal. I have seen the 8 disc set on pre-sale for 60.00. The 2 disc of Superman Returns will probably be between 20.00 and 25.00 anyway. Its only a little bit more for this massive set.
I have yet to see any pre-orders for this set or Superman Returns though.

I hate to be the downer, but isn't all of that just a bit excessive? What is the price going to be on that monster?

I think I'll pass. I only really love the first two Reeve Superman films. I've already got the first film on DVD. It may not have the same extras in this re-release, though, so I may end up getting it. I'm definitely getting the Donner cut of Superman II. I'm also definitely getting Superman Returns.

Yeah, I think I'll follow this strategy too, unless I hit the lottery. I'm too broke buyin' comics at 3 bucks a pop; the current run of Busiek Superman comics is way more worth buyin' than Superman III or IV. Oh yeah, the Verheiden/Van Sciver team is a winner on Superman/Batman too...

With all due respect to Christopher Reeve, none of his Superman movies have held up particularily well, and all of them after II were just plain awful.

I strongly disagree with respect to the first film; I still think Superman the movie is one of the best superhero movies ever. I strongly agree with respect to III and IV though. Now I think we should withhold judgment on II until the Richard Donner cut; I'm a sucker for those full page ads that just came out in the last week or two's round of comics; I totally have to get this!
