View Full Version : SUPERNATURAL isn't that bad!

I started watching it today, even though I bought it two weeks ago. It sat on my shelf, waiting patiently for me to attend to it. But frankly, I kept looking at it like, "I know this is going to be like Dawson's Creek with ghosts in it. I hate Dawson's Creek, and everything like it." I feared that I might be subjected to a few Justin Timberlake types...maybe even a new Katie Holmes! (BTW, to show that my hate-o-meter is properly tuned, I despised Katie Holmes long before Batman Begins and her Tom Cruise nonsense.)
Anyhow, I've enjoyed the first two episodes. Two extremely good-looking young men fight the supernatural in a quest to find out what happened to their father, who is also a ghost-fighter. It makes me happy to think that these two kids are Sons of Kolchak, and what a good idea for a remake of that classic show this would have been.
Regarding episode two, I always pronounced it "WEN-dig-o" as opposed to "wen-DEE-go", but what do I know? I'm not a native american.
More about this show later. Anyone else watching it?

I caught most of the first season. It was alright, but I really dont like the one actor who used to be on Smallville. He just bugs me, I guess.

Taki, I'm only surprised that it's not terrible! It's not bad, so far, and they even take a jab at Mulder and Scully in the pilot.
So I'm not pimpin' it yet....I'm just encouraged by what I've seen so far.

ok, you be the guinea pig for me. let me know if I should waste my time on it. That dude from Gilmore Girls annoys me without a legitimate reason, and the other one is too pretty... can you take him seriously as an actor? or is he convincing?

No and sort of. He's not a terrible actor, but also not a very good one. One dimensional, at best. He does the wise-ass older brother fairly well, and is even occasionally funny, but that's about it.
Oddly I've just been watching all the Dark Angel re-airs on scifi, and he was better in that. I hated him in Smallville though, and that's coloring my attitude of him on this show.

oh poop, is that him in the wheelchair from DA?
he sucked in smallville, but that whole season sucked anyway, except for Lois Lane, she is awesome.

Yeah, I don't know what this compulsion is with these WB type shows to make EVERYONE show unbelievably hot. It really takes me out of it, when I'm aware that these people should be modelling underwear instead of being riddled with angst and fighting monsters.
Really, X-FILES is the show template. Duchovny and Andersen weren't Ken and Barbie, but the more you got to know them as the show went on, the more attractive they became.

I have to disagree. Mulder was pure hotness from the get go. :D

No, he was one of the "manticore" kids who wound up working at Jam-pony in the second season. Jensen Ackles* is his name (according to IMDB)

*I wonder if that's the inspiration for Jason Dohring's "Logan Echolls" character? lol

I really thought this show was going to Blow when I heard about but I was very impressed. it also seemed to get better as the season wore on. Season 2 should be good.

I loved the first few episodes, but around episode 6 it seemed to get a little repetitive and generic. Or maybe that's just because I have extreme ADD and lose interest in things.
Let us know what you think after you finish the whole series, I's curious.

I am a HUGE fan of this series. Sure, the acting can be a little wooden and the plots are a bit repetitive, but for pure scary fun, there's no better show around. Wait till you get to the killer scarecrow.

Yeah this show is fantastic. While not as good as Buffy or angel, it fills in the hole they've left nicely.
When they start getting into the mythology of the show(much like x-files and Buffy and Angel, every fourth or so episode centers around the bigger goings on and not just boogen of the week) is when it gets really good.
Don't want to spoil it but you'll know what I mean when you see it.

It's too bad Darrin McGavin is gone. This series could be an A++++ if he was their father.

Duchovny is nearly old enough to play a believable dad of a pair of late-teen-early twenties. X-files started in 93, IIRC -- so Davey's prolly around 46 or so by now. Fatherhood starting in his mid-twenties - -yeh, could have worked, but for the fact that we all know Mulder died by autoeroticaphyxiation by now.

Thanks, Richard! Hmmm...Mulder as a father.....I don't know. The older brother is 26. I need the dad to be 50 something, and look kind of grisled by the horrors he's seen. Still, it'd be sweet.
I got excited thinking about how if this show is successful, maybe in the 5th year they can cross over into X-Files. Find Mulder and Scully, team up. That's the kind of geek I am.

I think the show is pretty good. has some decent scares. I really like the relationship of the two brothers. It's a much more serious show than I thought it would be. looking forward to the new season. I agree they could have been kolchaks kids. this is what the new kolchak series should have been, not the crapfest that it actually was, just a lousy X-files ripoff.

I really enjoy this show. I also bought the DVD and it sat on my shelf for a good couple of months before I popped in the first disc. (I don't even remember really why I purchased it. The fact that Jensen Ackles is drop dead gorgeous was probably part of the reasoning behind my purchase).
I had seen a couple of episodes on T.V. and new what I was in for, but I didn't expect to enjoy the show so much. I'm sure part of that is due to the fact that TV plays out better on DVD than it does on a week to week basis (no commercials, no re-runs to bog you down and things that seem to drag week to week are gone in a couple of hours when watching on DVD).
I think it's a fairly intelligent show, with lots of thrilling moments and a great atmospheric feel to it.
The first half of the season is weaker than the second half though. As soon as the show breaks out of the "new villain of the week" mode and starts to dig a little deeper into the underlying plot lines, it gets really good. Can't wait for it to start up again after that friggin' cliffhanger!!

With the amount of love Ethan has for x-files I don't doubt it. I wouldn't mind having those as well. My mom collects barbies, and they would make a nice addition. Too bad they don't actually look like Fox and Scully. :(

Supernatural is pretty good. The vibe is great, the acting is pretty good and you get a bunch of kick-ass fighting. The second season is pretty cool, there are some interesting twists to it.
It seems like that the woman that's been helping Sam and Dean had an affair with their dad and she might be one of their mothers. That's why Dean didn't try to get in the sack with her daughter
