View Full Version : Fraser to Repise Mummy Role

TMZ.com has learned that Universal Pictures has signed Brendan Fraser to reprise his role of Rick O'Connell in a third installment of "The Mummy" franchise. The movie is being readied to begin shooting early next year, says the site.

The studio has apparently made an offer to Joe Johnston (Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III) to direct. Stephen Sommers wrote and directed the first two films. "Smallville" creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are penning the new film.

The site says that the project will be a reimagining of the first two films, so we'll have to see whether Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo or Oded Fehr will be back as well.

This is very good news, with the possibility of being GREAT news. I love the first two Mummy movies as they were perfect popcorn fare. Let's hope they get the rest of the "must-have" cast members as well.

The same thought I had when I first heard that Rob Zombie was "reimagining" the Halloween franchise. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as it regards The Mummy however.

I love the first two and even if the Scorpion king at the end of the second one looks like a Boss from A Play Station 2 Game.

The first one was a fun, if forgettable movie.

The second was terrible!

It started out with promise, and then squandered it all away with crappy, unnecessary special effects and plot holes a mile wide.

I love those movies so fucking much.
But FUCK reimagining. Bring back Weisz!

I enjoyed both, with the exception of the horribly rendered Scorpion King at the end of the second. Plus, the girlfriend loved both, so I'm happy to hear this.

Are we really so low on ideas that we are re-making movies from a few years ago?
