One of the benefits to having a friend that manages at a local cinema...really early sneak peaks after hours (really a private showing for friends...and, if you like, he'll letcha smoke and drink while watching).

Sure hope to hell it's good. The late Douglas Adams is one of my favorite authors (even met him at a reading/signing when MOSTLY HARMLESS came out).

Towel is ready.

If it'll help I'll drink way-too-many beers beforehand so as not to be able to recall the viewing.

Without SPOILING anything...it was done extremely well.

Good distillation of the source material from the first book.

I think Douglas would have been pleased with it.

That is great news. I've been worried thatthe narative style of the book wouldn't translate to screen at all.

I might see it Thursday, in the same way.

Cool.

I do hope you guy like it too.

I was very very pleasantly surprised by it...I think some of the negative reviews had begun to wear down my optimism about how the film would turn out.

Now it HAS been something like 10-15 years since I've read the book(s) (but that would have been the 4th or 5th time I read them so...) but, again, well-done considering how chock full of goodness those books are.

If you don't like it, however, feel free to call me Slartifatass...

I'm just hoping they get the tone of the books right, and from your comments it seems like they did. So - sweet!

How will it rate on the Chick-O-Meter? (Terms of Endearment being a 10 and Team USA being a 1)? I think I can almost get my wife in there because she's a big fan of the Office and Martin Freeman but I can't take another bad movie pick (I'm still hearing about our near divorce over Team USA!).

Hmm.

I'm thinking that you'd do well to bring her.

It is a very good distillation of the first book. I'm not sure what the reviewers are so damn negative about...it's not like Everything could be filmed for the movie...well, I s'pose it could but it'd have to be several hours longer.

you mean like the BBC movie/TV segment that was like 3 hours long and went into Milliways and Earth in the past ? ....I liked that one despite it being cheezy as all hell.

Im glad you think its good though that makes me happy again.

Right on.

I have the collection of the BBC series (from way back in the day) and I still think they did a pretty decent job with it (even with the effects akin to old Doctor Who eps).
