View Full Version : Luke Cage Movie Casting

I just saw this on IMDB. I don't like the actor they've got for Cage (he doesn't quite have the right face for it) and I definitely don't like the one for Jessica Jones (I don't know what they're thinking there).

Eh, Tyrese has too much of a baby-face, but I think he'd be alright. And yeah, that choice for Jessica is way bad. I mean, I really don't care if they change her race...but how about someone who's acted before and not just hosted an MTV show.

Dude...he is ooooold now.
Why is it so hard to fathom that a guy with bulletproof skin would have a good complexion unaffected by the elements? Just give him a goatee and a hard stare and Tyreese would be fine.
And drop Jessica altogether and film Azzarello's mini.

Yep, he is, but i think he could pull it off. Besides, who'd you rather hear say Sweet Christmas, Tyrese or Keith David?

How about Tyrese with KD dubbing his vocals?

I would also be in favor of a Azz mini type of movie, instead of the stereotyped superhero story we're going to get here, you can still do an Alias movie down the road and call her Jessica Drew

Call me a purist but I would rather have Jessica White and I want her self loathing and vulgar and just amazing to listen to. Jessica needs a tv show or a movie or something on her own.

It just doesn't make sense to me. If they want to use Jessica, cast someone like Jessica. If you don't why use the name? It's not like Lois or Mary Jane, the general public doesn't know about Luke why would she have to be named Jessica? Just weird.

I defy someone to tell me that Mekhi Phifer wouldn't be the perfect Cage. The voice, the presence, the look, the acting talent. Done. Deal.
And as much as I love Jessica, she really does deserve her own vehicle. Why not throw in the DotD instead?

I was just getting ready to post that Mekhi Phifer would be a perfect Cage until I got to the end and saw you beat me to it.
And, yeah, Jessica Jones shouldn't be in the movie at all. I'd be up for something like the Azzarello mini. Don't really have high hopes for this as it stands.

I'm shocked you went over Keith David. But Phifer is a good choice nonetheless.
My main concern isn't so much the fact that they've changed her race (though honestly, I think the whole interracial aspect of their relationship is partially what makes it work so well). It's the fact that she'll probably be Jessica Jones in name only and just a typical movie love interest rather than a fully realized character.

Yeah, that is what worries me. That and John Singleton hasn't directed anything worth watching since Boyz N The Hood.

i think casting jessica as a black woman is a copout. Part of the dynamic that the relationship is that it is completely unconventional.

Fair enough. I forgot he directed Rosewood. Still haven't seen Four Brothers yet, but Baby Boy, Shaft 2000, and Poetic Justice were laughable at best.

Terrible, terrible casting.
Jessica Jones is one of those characters that has to be white, to cast her otherwise is a cop out. I've said before that I wouldn't mind a black Superman or a black Batman and I didn't mind a black Kingpin either because thier particular race isn't all that integral to thier character. Jessica Jones however is in a bi-racial relationship and I think that element is a very important aspect to her character. Hollywood cop out afraid to portray bi-racial relationships on the big screen still I guess.
Frankly, I don't even see the logic behind having Jessica Jones in a Cage movie to begin with.
If I had any power, Jessica Jones would be portrayed on-screen by Caroline Dhavernas http://www.chrisabraham.com/Caroline-Dhavernas-thumb.jpg http://images.zap2it.com/20041012/glamourdontparty04/034_carolinedhavernas2_glamourdontparty04.jpg

I think this is bogus. Cage isn't even on Marvel's official list of films in development any more. Last I read Singleton wasn't interested anymore and they weren't sure what they were going to do. So I would take this with a grain of salt since this has been a rumor for going on three years now.

Boyz N The Hood wasn't even that great if you compare it to something like Menace II Society.

The first time we ever see Jessica Jones in film...and she's not even the right race?
We might as well make Luke white. I'm not being racist, I just think Jessic abeing black changes the character too much. Especially one that is a cult favorite.
Also, not every Marvel character needs a movie.

I think the interracial part is absolutely crucial to their relationship AND I'm also worried she's going to be very watered down. Jones is one of the few strong female characters at Marvel, so it's a shame they'd do that to her.

Maybe in five years, but I think Dhavernas is too young.

I'm cool with Tyrese. He can act - from what I've seen.
I'm not entirely sure that I like the Jessica casting. Let's get someone with some acting credits in there. I also think that if "Alter-Ego" is still in development somewhere - this is going to fuck with people's heads.

I don't know, Boyz still gets me to tear up every time. Mostly it's because the relationship between Tre and Furious (still the on of the greatest names for a movie character) is so well done and reminds me of me and my dad.

I suppose I could see him as Black Panther. The accent would make more sense then.

He's got the right look, build, height, (He's 6'4") plus he's a damn good actor too.
