Ok bitches, you are going to be in my town now! Who is coming? WWC was awesome and for some weird ass reason I have the desire to give a better whack at meeting those I didn't in Chicago!

Thud and I want to show you Texas haters how it really is!

we're debating it, but honestly it was such a bad experience last time that I doubt we'll do it

Yea, it kind of sucked a few years ago but last year was alot better. If you do make it down this time I think things will go alot better now, people know each other now and it'll be fun.

don't get me wrong I enjoyed talking to you, Arthur, JP and the Beraneks. But closing us out of the bar was bullshit, and then the fact that the hotel was not in walking distance to anything really sucked. On top of all that you add the usual Wizard comic-con nazis and it made for a bad experience.

It was that con experience that convinced me to drop all wizard products.

Yeah, and I am going to be meeting my adoring public. I was a stranger in Chicago, but this is my home. Can you say milk and cookies for everyone?

I'm looking into it now. I have an itch to travel and have never been to Texas. Plus I always have fun at cons.

If anyone needs some advice on where to stay and eat, you can ask me. I lived 10 mins away from there until a few years ago. If you have a rental car, I can tell you some "nice" places to eat. And by nice, I mean damn tasty, not expensive!

I was looking forward to going to WWTX before...as I've already requested vacation time to go...but now after WWChi...I'm REALLY excited about going.

For all of you cheap skates who want to save money, do not stay in any motels(I say motels since there aren't any hotels) in Oak Cliff. If you value your life, you will follow that sound advice.

Don't worry, that is far far away from where the convention is.:scared: :scared: :scared:

I have been trying to figure out how to get people to some great food, but the issue of transportation is a doosy. I am assuming all of the out of towners will be at the hotels right there by arlington convention center and will not have rides. There really is not anything that is great to eat that is accessable by foot. Any ideas? I can come up with great hole in the wall places that are close, but close in Texas measurements is not close by other standards. I really want to help share the greatness of the local food with everyone somehow.....

If I come I'll have a car, but...it's small so it only fits like 5.

ClintP

Yeah, I am sure there will be some cars there, and I don't mind making transports. However, my party timer goes off after several hours and I wouldn't want to make people leave before they are ready. It is an ignigma!

I'm planning to be there. I missed SDCC because of my wife and I changing jobs/lack of money/etc. but I should be in a good enough place by November to hit that one. Really looking forward to it as it will likely be my only con of the year!

We'll have a big fan I think, but as far as I can tell, it's gonna be packed with about 6 or 7 of us coming in from Lafayette. But there are a million Taxi's in Arlington. Shouldn't be more than a few bucks to get anywhere in town.

Hmm, if that is a big hit, I might trade BBQ for sketches! I am a BBQ loving fool. Actually, I love all food, but my favorites are Mexican and BBQ. THAT is why I live in Texas and can never leave it.

Anyways, if WWT will let me bring it in, I wouldn't mind bringing the best damn BBQ I know of. Sounds like I might be on to something!

you should be fine bringing in outside food.

I went out with some wizard staff out for BBQ couple of years ago, I dunno what it was called, but I was in heaven.

no we went out to eat, not deliver to the con...

anyway, I've had many people bring me outside food at all sorts of cons, Wizard included and nothing ever happens. A friend had a pizza delivery guy even come in (without a badge, even) to the con floor in Chicago.

Hmm.... Interesting.... THE best BBQ in DFW is at a place called Baby Back Shak. A co-worker is friends with the owner and brought some for the folks up here on day. BEST BBQ EVER! They are in downtown Dallas and used to cater the Mavericks before they moved to American Airlines Center.

There is also a GREAT burger place in Arlington about 2 miles from the convention center by UTA called Jim's Burgers. Talk about awesome. It is open on Sat, but only till like 2 or 3. I could maybe do a burger run for interested creators who will be depending on crappy convention food.

This is how we are in the big TX. Loven the FOOD!

Brubaker is going to be there? If so, I guess I will have to wait in a long ass line. I refuse to wait in lines for anything these days, but I will for Brubaker and Bendis(if Bendis gets anywhere near my neck of the woods that is.)

Shit, if you get bru at your store Jeffery, I will drive my happy ass there for that. How far is the store from DFW?

http://www.lonestarspirits.org/photos.html The photo on the person on the horse in the middle is cool. I have a photo like that taken in New Olreans. And I can't truly say that it's midst, dew, or dust because there are several photos taken back to back and that one picture is the only one that came out like that. spooky!

Last year Peter David was in artist alley in a corner pocket table. Even though I was not impressed with The Other, I felt bad seeing him there with only a trickle of fans. Though, I would rather vulture around that then wait in a long ass line to see someone. Got to love the catch 22 huh?

What was sayamama's place? I can look into it more. Also, those two aren't really hollywood replica's, well maybe the munster house, but you can'tgo in it anyways. The catfish place is supposed to be haunted, but I have never felt the need to call the ghostbusters or anything. Though they don't come off forced and trying to be a "haunted" restraunt. It is more or less in the name.

Steer me in the right direction to look and I will see what I can come up with. Though, real haunted houses are going to be imagined anyways.

I can deal with Hispanics and Black folks all day long. I went to school in the ghetto part of Grand Prairie until I was in high school. It is the white folk I am most scared of. I have never had a black or brown person slash my tires, only white ones.... I also get a lot of fresh imigrants speaking spanish to me on a frequent basis. I went to taco beuno just 2 weeks ago and a woman who worked there kept trying to get my attention in spanish. I always joke around that I am half hispanic.

My last manager that I used to carpool with grew up there and even he won't go there at night. And he was a marine with and his last name is Chapa.....

Tours are now closed, due to extreme weather conditions. They will re open again soon, sorry for the unconvinced.
WTF? Extreme weather? Are they talking about the same DFW I know and love?
I will look around some, though north texas does not have too many places that I am aware of like this. I have lived here my whole life too. Most places that are scarey like this are out in bum fuck nowheres. I will keep an eye out though. What day were yall wanting to do something like this? Weekday or weekend day after the convention?

Dude, I am down with anything. I appreciate the hospitality (it's one of the reasons I loved this show last year).

There is also an old school car hop where they have old cars there all of the time for kinda like car shows. I could bring the Malibu out if you wanted? Though, no one is eating or acting nutty around my baby(by baby, I mean my classic car!)

Ah cool. I got one too. What color is yours? I got a silver one with blue panels. I traded my Titan in after the tire slashing deal. You should get about 24 mpg in that car, more i guess if you have the 2WD.

we will arrive thursday night sometime. I'm hoping that we leave early enough. 2 years ago we got there really late. After 1am. We were bummed to the Holiday Inn because there was a whole floor without water sprinklers. At least we got a free night. But we learned our lesson and I think last year we arrived sometime around 7pm.

sorry, we were bumped and moved over to another hotel because the sprinklers for the fire alarm were not working so they couldnt allow anyone to stay on that floor. it was the one right across from the Trail Dust. We literally slept, woke up and then went back . i don't recall a wendy's. it was a fairly nice hotel.

Ah, Traildust is off of I-30 and right across the freeway from the convention center. The other one was a little bit further away. I used to live right over there and that was the first one that came to my mind.

Ah. I have been there for my last job when I trained Cingular reps on this system. I flew to Baton Rouge at night and drove to Hammond for the next day. Then after that store closed, I drove back to Lafayette and worked a Cingular store there for a day, and then drove to New Orleans after that store closed. Nice people in those parts for the most part. The accents in Lafayette got me to chuckle a couple times. For some reason, some people there have stronger ones than they did around the other cities. Oh well.

I saw on dirty jobs about something called Craklin. Like a bacon/pork rhind mix. Ever had any of that? It looked yummy on DJ.

:scared: Why would you be scared there? :scared:

I challenge anyone to not be scared there while on foot.... My office mate here at work is black and he has some stories to tell about Fair Park area. He was leaving a football game and while there was bumper to bumper traffic waiting to leave and get on the freeway, he saw a gas station being robbed in broad daylight. He said the robber were on foot and had guns. They were firing them at the store as they fled and carjacked someone right near their jeep. He said he jumped out of the back of the jeep and ran on foot to try to get away. Other people on foot around there tried to "get in" that jeep to get away from the danger....

I laugh thinking about it. He told his buddy to pick him up at the freeway, because he didn't want to get shot by the robbers or the store owner who fired back....

don't get me wrong I enjoyed talking to you, Arthur, JP and the Beraneks. But closing us out of the bar was bullshit, and then the fact that the hotel was not in walking distance to anything really sucked. On top of all that you add the usual Wizard comic-con nazis and it made for a bad experience.

It was that con experience that convinced me to drop all wizard products.

Dont let him put you off... Dallas is our favorite con. It's Wizard, so they get some names in there but it's not huge, so the lines and stuff arent that bad...

I may be biased because the Wizard folks always treat us like gold... where as some folks got locked out of the bar on Saturday, we were invited in...

Wizard has a private party for all of their guests... they usually have it in the bar at the Wyndham... they shut the entire place down and everyone has a good time without having to worry about fans and stuff... kinda a chance to let their hair down and relax for a few hours.

Oh well. I am just a fan and I enjoy the show. I don't care about Wizard's politics. I just want to find some deals, meet some buddies from the board, and chat with a creator or two. WWT accomplishes all 3 things, as do smaller cons in the area.

I've hear about tiny cons in San Antonio and here in Austin every once in awhile but I've never been to any.
Hmm. You may just have to come back up here for the one in Plano. It is a fairly decent convention. I may have different expectations for going to cons though. I go to look for deals, and at the bigger ones, look for fellow bendis board people. I don't get too many smaller press comics unless they are either created by someone on this board or really really hyped up. so far, none have fell into the latter category.
