...a character is beaten senseless and mutilated by multiple assilants, yet after a bit of soul searching still manages to gain the upper hand and kick their asses during the same encounter.

Becuase I'm in the mood to read something like that.

Well its not multiple assailants but the recent Punisher arc Barracuda has something like that where they kick the shit out of each other.

Anything more? I looked through my back issues and was surprised there are but a few such stories. At least in my collection.

the recent battle between Wonder Woman and Superman during the 'Sacrifice' arc was pretty damn brutal.

but that's not multiple people, is it?

In the Kitty Pryde & Wolverine mini-series there's a part like that in the last issue and has one of the best Wolvie scenes in all of comicdom.
