Contrary to popular belief, I respect the opinions of the members here and consider this community here to be the most cutting edge group of comic readers on the net, always at the forefront of what's happening in the industry.
What armor design do you think is better for Iron-Man?
The first is the classic Bob Layton design, and the second is the current design. I personally am not a fan of the designs that have been around for the last 15 years, but the current design just might be the worst yet. I definitely prefer the sleek Layton design, and I wish Marvel would go back to something closer to that.

I prefer #1, but I think the current armor is by no means NEAR the worst armor IM's ever had. In fact, I think it's up in the top 5 easily for BEST armor.
I also think the pic you posted for #2 is nota good example of it.

Iron Man two is modern with a manga-influenced style. I think that's cool - but what's with those thigh-high bitch boots?
Whatever Hitch does in the Ultimates -- that's the style I dig.

Honestly, it was the best full body shot in the latest Patrick Zircher issues. I like his art on the series, but I think his armor drawing is weak.

I prefer 2. It's a sleek, formfitting armor while still looking like it can possibly fly and shoot lasers (or whatever it fires). Number one is almost too sleek... it looks like chrome, segmented spandex. Hitch's design in Ultimates is also sweet. Very real-world.

actually prefer number 2 (although just barely). maybe the boots should be lowered though..

2....the Layton design is a classic but damn if it isn't funny looking in retrospect now. The rounded helment just doesn't work at all for me now, especially in comparsion to the wicked flip up faceplate Tony has now.

I really dug the War Machine armor, but I guess that doesn't count.

Looking at the full body shot of 2, I'm not crazy abot it. Mostly the Torso area and the boots. It looks like Samus from Metroid.
So I guess 1.

The original AND BEST Iron Man suit.

The original AND BEST Iron Man suit.
agreed.
though, the gold garbage can suit had a certain pizzazz.
but of those, i do like the original much more. however, i think the abdominal, arm, and leg muscles... in iron, are lame as hell. i think i saw maleev's version and it was just sleek... not iron muscles.

I like number 2, mostly because the muscles on the arms and legs of the old suit just seem silly in this day and age. Those hip boots are stupid looking though.
My preferred armor is the Hitch version from the Ultimates.

As a rule, I dig it best when Iron Man looks like he was built in the USA, since... you know... Stark built him, not some Japanese mech-buildin' corporation. Go figure.

#2. It's got a kick-ass inhuman giant-robot style to it that just totally works.

Layton's version was what was burned into my 7 year old brain when I started reading comics and everything else since then just hasn't had the same impact.

I will admit to sometimes feeling the new armor lacks the personalityy of the older models. However, I still feel the armor we have now is better than some of those we've had in the past.

I voted for 2. I like this style, but I voted it for it solely on the fact that I think it would work better for the movie.
1 is also an awesome suit, but doesn't seem like it would work.
Both are comics-awesome.

I like 2. It looks like he's wearing something fairly advanced. I like that it doesn't look like a really muscular guy painted with some red and gold spray paint.

I love the old style.
Silver and Red from the Aromr Wars era is my favorite.

i'll take this one. But i'd love to see all of the armors in a row to pick my absolute favorite as i did like the red and white armor as well as the ultimate armor. Heck the heroes reborn design was kinda cool even

For the helmet alone, I pick the modern one.
HCMarvel

hitch and millar make the good point that with all the 616 iron man armors, his nose would be crunched by the helmet. Thats why the ultimate armor has the bottle nose kind of, to actually fit the human head in. Its a solid point..

The more it looks like armor and not some sort of weird shiny spandex, the better.
Modern.

I picked the modern suit...because it looks like ARMOR.

the old design looks like a tank top and a speedo.
and why would the metal armor have flexing muscles? that always bothered me.

Modern.
I can't actually think of a version of the Iron Man armor that I's classify as "looking like spandex." I'm sure I'm wrong and there are a couple, but the one then that stays pretty standard amongst all the designs is the fact that they all look pretty bulky, from the ones I can remember.

Didn't they explain that away as it being some form of "Metal Fiber" Stark invented? Yeah, I'll agree, it's a cop-out, but at least it was addressed.

I'm looking at the illustration in the first post and all the muscles showing through the armor looks silly to me.

never read all that much iron man. so i am not sure but if that is the case then i have to agree that it is good that they at least adressed it.

I'm pretty sure they did, because there have been quite a few references to Peter parker's new Spider-Suit being made of the same stuff, which is why it's both shiney and skintight.

Well, while I glad that there's some sort of in-story expaination for it, it still looks goofy.

My favorite is still the silver and red (Silver Centurian?) armor from the early 90's. That's when I really started getting into comics and he and The Captain had some nice run-ins. Of the two available choices though I prefer the modern suit more. That old Layton one looks like he should be deep sea diving I've always thought.

and for some reason that doesnt bother me on the spidey suit, yet it does on the Iron man suit.

Perhaps because his name is IronMan, which definitely gives the impression of solidity. He's not Stretchy Metal Fiber Man.

I always thought the #1 armor looked too damn goofy. I hated when they went back to it in the Busiek/Perez run of the Avengers.
That's one of the great things about Iron Man though, you can constantly change his armor.

Lotsa love for the classic suit, but the modern version just look much slicker and makes much more sense for Stark to wear.

If there's any character who should not have a steady costume, it's Iron Man.
I honestly don't prefer one suit over the other.

New armor. It looks more high tech and befitting a billionaire captain of industry and technological genius. The older suit looks like the equivalent of the space ship the kids in The Explorers built.
