CANADIAN NATIONAL, BALTIMORE SHARE NEW AVENGERS #23 VARIANT

The Canadian National Book Expo (September 1-3 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center) and the Baltimore Comic-Con (September 9-10 at the Baltimore Convention Center) have teamed up to offer attendees the opportunity to get an exclusive sketch cover version of New Avengers #23 by superstar artist Olivier Coipel. The artist will also appear at both conventions.
The House of M artist, who previously contributed a variant cover to the third issue of New Avengers, will illustrate the interior of New Avengers #23, part of the current “New Avengers Disassembled” storyline, which ties into Marvel Comics top-selling Civil War series.
At the Toronto event, Coipel will be joined by New Avengers writer Brian Michael Bendis, former New Avengers artist Steve McNiven, former New Avengers artist David Finch, former Avengers writer Geoff Johns, Wildstorm Productions founder and Batman artist Jim Lee, Wonder Woman artist Terry Dodson, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, Green Lantern artist Ethan Van Sciver, former Flash artist Humberto Ramos, Hellboy director Guillermo Del Toro, and X-Men: The End artist Sean Chen. Celebrity guests William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Carrie Fisher and Alice Cooper will also appear.
In Baltimore, Coipel will be matched with Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada, longtime Avengers artist George Pérez, New Avengers editor Tom Brevoort, former Avengers writer Kurt Busiek, New Avengers #21 artist Howard Chaykin, New Avengers and Mighty Avengers artist Frank Cho, JSA Classified artist Amanda Conner, V for Vendetta artist David Lloyd, Legion of Superheroes creative team Mark Waid and Barry Kitson, Heroes for Hire creative team Jimmy Palmiotti and Billy Tucci, and Grendel creator Matt Wagner. Additional creators such as Don Rosa (The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck), John Romita, Sr. and John Romita, Jr. (Amazing Spider-Man) will also appear.
“We very pleased to welcome Olivier Coipel to our respective shows, and to offer this exclusive to the many fans of Marvel’s New Avengers,” said Marc Nathan, promoter of the Baltimore Comic-Con.
“And we’re also happy that we could work together on this project. Since both shows are dedicated to promoting comics, collecting, and a great family experience, it seemed like a natural,” said Aman Gupta, promoter of The Canadian National Book Expo.
The 2006 edition of The Canadian National Book Expo is the 12th annual event under its banner. It is recognized as the third largest comic book-based event in North America. It is offered simultaneously with the science fiction-themed SFX 2006, the horror-based Festival of Fear, Anime Expo 2006, and the Canadian National Gaming Expo.
This year’s Baltimore Comic-Con is the seventh annual show and it is also the first with the show as the official home of the Harvey Awards. Geppi’s Entertainment Museum at Camden Yards, located immediately across the street from the convention center, celebrates is Grand Opening the day before the convention starts, offering an extra reason to make the journey to Baltimore.
