I found a bunch of small sites today stating that Sony is considering a 3rd, Direct to DVD MIB sequel: Men in Black: Maury Island.
They report that Rip Torn would reprise his role as Zed and DL Hughley would be taking the role of J.
Looking a bit deeper, Maury Island was a real UFO case -- From Wikipedia:
"The Maury Island incident is said to be an early modern UFO encounter incident, which allegedly took place shortly after the sighting of the original flying saucers by Kenneth Arnold. It is also one of the earliest reported instances of an alleged encounter with so-called "Men in black". "
So it sounds to me that this would be more likely to be a prequel and Hughley would not be taking the role of J, but perhaps an early MIB agent.
I'm not sure how I feel about another MIB film. The concept and the first film are genius. Somehow, they really screwed up the second film, though. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they ditched Tommy Lee Jones and made them more Will Smith films..
What do you think? Is there room for more MIB, especially without K and J?

Yawn.
Then again i'd have the same reaction to a true Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones sequel as well.

Ugh. After the second, they should just let this die.

The 2nd one wasn't BAD, it was just more of the same. The wonkyness of it worked well the first time, but not the 2nd.
So yeah, no interest in a 3rd movie.
Unless, the original writer and penciler got paid for it.

Love the first one. The second one wasn't bad, but it was definitely... off.

No, no more movies, but if they wanted to bring the cartoon to dvd, I'd be happy.

I think this would make an awesome comic, but movies.... meh... The first one was great and I look at it like I do with the MAtrix flicks... Only the first one exists to me....

A prequel does sound interesting though...

Actually, it was based on a comic book.

I think that MIB2 was good, but uneven. There was little story, just the gags. I'd be happy to see a third.

One thing I would say though is that I don't think they should replace Smith or Jones. Why not just focus on another agent or two?

Get Michael Jackson to be one of the agents. Remember his cameo in 2? That's the way to end a trilogy, replace you're two stars with Michael Jackson...

There were two minis done under Malibu, Marvel did some mini's as well. While the Malibu mini's did okay for an indy black and white comic, the color books just didn't catch on. I'm kinda surprised they haven't collected a bunch of it into a trade. MIB still has plenty of mainstread recognition.
BTW: My interview with the artist of the original MIB comic. http://www.collectortimes.com/2006_02/Clubhouse.html
He got NO money out of the movie and stuff. It's pretty sad.

Even just the agent names could be fun:
Special agent Pi
Twin agents named W
Dr. Ω
Captain Nate

Barry Sonnenfeld has been developing a sequel for a while...I don't believe it would go direct-to-dvd.
I loved the first MIB, I love the chemistry between Smith & Jones, I want to see them back
