'Deadman' to live again on big screen

Guillermo Del Toro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Borys Kit

Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with Don Murphy's Angry Films to bring cult DC Comics superhero "Deadman" to the big screen.

Del Toro is in negotiations to develop the comics-to-film adaptation, which would be produced by del Toro, Murphy and Susan Montford.

Deadman is the ghost of a circus acrobat named Boston Brand, who was murdered during a trapeze performance. His spirit was granted the power by a Hindu goddess to possess any living being in order to find his killer. In the ensuing search, Brand finds himself obliged to help others. The hero was created in 1967 by Arnold Drake and Carmine Infantino and is known for a run of issues by artist Neal Adams.

A search for writers is under way.

I hope Neal Adams is used in a techinical advisory capacity.

Keen!

Hope they make it very surreal and instill it with all the absurdist sensibilities it should have.

dude, I'm just realizing how little I know about comics.
I confused this one with Madman.
Deadman's the one that kinda dresses like DD, but he can go into people's bodies and stuff right?

Interesting. Deadman is one of the funnier super hero books, right?

If this is ever actually filmed i'll shit a brick.

Where the fuck is Hellboy 2? The first one wasn't a blockbuster (In fact it underperformed $59,623,958 on a reported $66 Million Dollar Budget). But i still rather see that first than this.

Guy Pearce should be Deadman.

I got to agree with Vonn Hennigar, I would rather see a second Hellboy than a movie with some third rate DC Hero in it. Although I love Del Toro's work and I can't wait for Pan's Labyrinth.

Is Warren Ellis going to write it?

This could be fun, but yeah let's get Hellboy 2 out first.

Very cool. DC's making some odd choices for their movies lately, but I'm looking forward to this.

Isn't Del Toro also remaking The Witches? This guy's plate seems pretty full...

This potentially could be amazingly cool.

For some reason, my brain processed that first line as "Benecio del Toro is going to be Deadman."

And I don't necessarily think that would've sucked.

I always liked Deadman. His super power is that he's dead! How great is that?

I'd guess they'll go CGI with him since he's basically just a skeleton in a costume, much like the upcoming Ghost Rider movie.

I prefer the Johnny Depp Deadman.

Is Warren Ellis going to write it?

Ha ha.

For those that don't get the joke, listen to this. It's Warren Ellis on why he turned down Deadman.

Deadman fucking rules. But they'd better put him in Red PJs. No red PJs means no money from TheTravis!

He only looks like that in Kingdom Come.

I know, but I thought that might make for a better visual cinematically than Powder in red pj's ;)

I love Deadman. I hope Del Toro keeps it true to the spirit. I know the man knows his shit, I just hope they don't hand it over to some super crappy writer/director team looking to do their own thing. Their own crappy thing.

Then why did you say that he's "basically" a skeleton in a costume, if you knew that wasn't true at all?
Wierdo.

I hope he does that instead of another Hellboy.
