View Full Version : The older, the shorter

My mom just cut her hair shorter, and although it looks very good on her, I realized that her hair keeps getting shorter and shorter as she gets older and the same trend goes to pretty much every older woman I know.

Why do you think they prefer the shorter styles? I once had a very short style in highschool and since I have straight hair, it took way more effort to make it look 'right', versus just shake my hair and go in the morning, if I really want to now with my long hair. So considering that, it can't be because it's lower maintenance, can it?

I always wondered this too. In Korea, it's even more striking (every older woman has the exact same perm), so I asked my girlfriend about it. She said that older women just feel they need to have a certain hair style.

I think it's really too bad because I always think it's really cool when you see an older woman with long hair.

I also susect older people are afraid long hair will make them look like they just escaped a medieval dungeon.

Less maintenance?
yea, but I said that I had a short cut once and it was way more maintenance than long hair in my experience.

Absolutely. Whenever I see women like that I always think it's so cool. And I automatically think they're hippies, which is kind of cool too.

Not young hippies, but old hippie women are for some reason.

To save money on hair dye. Less hair, less money = more for the slot machines. It's simple really.

June Carter Cash always wore her hair long, even in to her 70s, and it looked good.

I didn't want to be the one to say it, but yeah, odds are their scalps can't handle the weight of longer hair as easily. Too bad, too, the wizened wizard look is so in these days.
