One of my favorite movies of all time.

And I guess the Superman thing has to do with Jennifer Jason Leigh playing the His Gal Friday that Lois was based on?

loved the movie, and I see the Lois parallel, but that's it

I'd say it's a Lois Lane movie without Superman

It's also a great Magnum P.I. movie without any characters or plotlines from the show.

It's not exactly easy to explain, but I feel like it has a lot of Superman elements to it.

• The nondescript big city has the classic Metropolis architecture and layout.

• Tim Robbins' Norville Barnes is a very Clark Kent-esque, cornfed Midwestern boy -- a fish out of water in the big city.

• Jennifer Jason Leigh's Amy Archer is a Lois Lane-esque hard-nosed newsreporter who puts the story above her own personal pursuit of human connection in pursuit of yet another Pulitzer Prize.

• Paul Newman's Sidney J. Mussburger is the evil businessman that acts as the Lex Luthor to Norville's Superman.

Please, don't ruin this movie for me by turning it into some Superman geekwank.

In that case, you'd better get a papertowel and some oxyclean fast. Those stains are going to be hard to get out.
