Yeah....wow. Got this as a Birthday present (well actually I got a best buy gift certificate...and used it to buy this and a few other DVDs). I'm just in shock at this show...it just SCREAMS late 80's. Hell even the 80's synthisized version of the Superman movie theme song is just so bad.
My god...though...it's JUST SO LATE 80'S! It kinda hurts.
however...I do not regret getting it...so I guess that means it's not all bad.

Ok...I'm currently watching an episode where Lex Luthor tries to fix a basketball game. Lex has both a player and a Ref in his pocket. So what does clark do? He knocks the basketball player unconcious, and then tells the ref that he knows he's in Lex's pocket and promises him not to spill the news in the college paper if he leaves town and never refferee's another game, which the ref just says ok to (and almost seems more than happy to do it)...THEN changes into Superboy and becomes the official refferee for the game.
just wow....

And just because he's Superboy they instantly accept him as having the proper knowledge and training to referee a game? Tools.

This thread has given me a very good laugh so far. If those DVDs were cheaper, I'd be all over them.

In one episode Clark takes a friend's skateboard and rides off into the distance...while riding the skateboard he opens his shirt to reveal the Superboy costume and then flies up into the sky.
Why the hell did he need a skateboard?

Did he return the skateboard? If he didn't that wouldn't be too super of him.

I've heard the show gets better in season two. Different actor, different approach.

Was the villain at THE MAX? It could be that Superboy had to take it there.

Was the villain Slater?
The Max is from Saved by the Bell, right?

It does. I've recently seen some episodes from later seasons and they are alot better.
OMG...in the episode I'm watching...this alien being knows Superboy is Clark kent...so he finds Clark Kent standing around a bunch of people and the alien shoot him with a missle launcher. When the dust settles...There's Superboy with no sign of clark.
This is great stuff. :D

i bought this. and i have to tell you ...its SOOO bad ...really awful stuff...but its one of those things thats so bad its awesome. like the sheer horribleness of the special effects/acting makes you want to keep watching.
and yes it does get much better in the later seasons...new lex luthor actor is key same with clark/superman..

Oh...I'm loving every minute of this DVD set. I'm actually looking forward to later season sets, though...cause then we can get to the episodes that I actually remember from the show...like the one where Superboy gets turned into a Vampire...and uses Kryptonite to help cure himself.
Or the Bizzaro episodes...or even the episodes where Superboy was traveling to alternate Dimensions.
I'm REALLY looking forward to those episodes. However I'm loving the episodes on this DVD set as well.

I can explain it.
Superboy heard and saw the missle coming at some kid, and he used his Super Speed to get the kid out of the way.

Yes...nothing even remotely suspicious about that at all.

actually they aren't in Smallville. They are in some city in Florida. Clark and Lana are going to College at Shuster University.

So I'm listening to the commentary on one Episode with Ilya Silkind and John Haymes Newton.
man...Newton sounds like an ass.

Any particular reason?
I barely remember anything about the show except that they had Bizarro on it at one point and Lex lost his freakin' MIND and went completely loony at some point.
Do they mention why they changed actors?
I'll pick it up, most likely, because I'm a Superman freak and, hell, if I can sit through LOIS AND CLARK I can sit through this.

from what i hear he was big time....he got into some trouble with the law between seasons 1 and 2 and also demanded a hefty pay raise..so they recast

Eh...I don't know. His tone of voice and demeanor in the commentary makes him sound like an ass. Also he'll every now and then make a joke at another actor's expense and then laugh at it...and the jokes are more insulting that joking. He also tends to point out all the mistakes in the show which seems to get on Salkind's nerves. Though it's not all bad. Every now and then he'll even poke fun of himself a bit...but not as often as he likes to make jokes about other cast members.
However Ilya Salkind sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about....
It's kinda weird listening to the commentaries on this set.
