View Full Version : For all the artists...
I have a question: I'm somewhat interested in plugging some hip-hop into my drawing style, and I was wondering if any of you know of websites devoted to that sort of thing. Thanks in advance.

Check out Damion Scott's issue of Solo. It had a really interesting graphitti-esque approach.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I use this page for inspiration sometimes...

Well, the only things I can really think of are the publicity stills and such for Samurai Champloo, or (forgive me) stuff running along the lines of the cover to Limp Bizkit's Significant Other. Kind of gritty, non-realistic representation type stuff.

I'd definitely say check out that site I posted then.

There is a book called "How to draw hiphop" along with the 2 manga hiphop books. Normally I hate any sort of hiphop instructional ---anything. However I do find these books to be helpful and treat it with respect. Graffiti is not only an art but one of the 4 elements of hiphop so it may take you some time to "get it". You can also pick up "The Source" or "XXL" or any other magazine.
But that "How to draw hiphop" book is a decient little starter book, it's written by a journalist who writes for "VIBE" or something like that. Good luck
Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated.

Markedly different from his usual stuff. He sez in the book he was going for a more hip hop vibe.
Solo is one of the best damn comics being published right now...

What's SOLO about?
Each issue is an opportunity for a different artist to just go crazy on a bunch of short stories and do whatever they want (Tho' DC asks that at least one story feature a DC hero). It's produced awesome all-new material by Howard Chaykin, Darwin Cooke, Paul Pope, Richard Corbin, Mike Allred, Sergio Aragones, and a bunch more...

Yup. Every new issue is bittersweet. Aragones' was fantastic. I've never read him doing anything but comedy... his style was surprisingly complimentary to all the different kinds of stories he did...

This is another series my LCS never even bothered to order, so I'm stuck waiting for the right eBay auction to come along. Can't wait though, I've heard such good about it...
