HD on your crt monitor

so, as long as your video card can handle it, you can run 480p or even 720p on your computer monitor, right? cause i'm just wondering if these hd trailers i download from apple are really in hd on my monitor, or if i need a lcd or an hdtv monitor to really get true hd.
