First off...GORGEOUS!

I'm curious about it being mixed media. I always thought that meant like using all kinds of different stuff to craft the page, like how David Mack will use feathers or lace and stuff like that. Am I misunderstanding what mixed media is or am I not seeing all the nuances in how you crafted this page.

Does the flame LIGHT UP??? :D

I know you didn't ask me, but I thought I might chime in to help answer part of your question. Most people will say a piece is mixed-media if they used a few different techniques in the peice that labeling it one or the other really just doesn't do justice to describe it.

For instance, if a piece of art starts out as a several pencil drawings, that then get painted with watercolors and then scanned into the computer and composited and manipulated in photoshop into one final image... what might you call that? Is it a painting? is it a drawing? is it digital art? Well it's really all of those things. So rather than pick one of those labels most people would just call that piece of art, mixed-media.

And that's an excellent piece of art by the way. Steve fucking rocks!

hey denny,
the professor is on the money. I think that Spencer was correct in labelling it mixed media as I used a neutral grey watercolour on top of the pencil shading. A bit of ink for holding lines and there it is...mixed media. Should have thrown in a feather or two though, just to be on the safe side.
And as always your kind words are most appreciated!

Cool! I always love seeing the original pieces and seeing everything the artist put into the work. It's amazing some of the stuff you can see.

I went to a David Mack gallery showing up at Northern Kentucky University...INSANE!

And I'll be looking for that feather in the last Civil War issue. :p
