Close. After Victor follows the Monster into the arctic, he gets stranded on a broken piece of iceburg. He is rescued by a ship and tells the tale to Captian Wallace, one of the narrators of the story. Victor then dies on the ship, where the Monster finds him dead and then jumps out into the icy water, and is never seen again.

Victor Frankenstein? AKA Dr. Frankenstein.
And he's serious, but he said "Captain", not "Christopher".

Yeah. The Frankenstien of Shelley's book is like no Frakenstien i've seen in the movies.

if you're still waiting for the trade, then uh, sorry, you should've got the monthlies when they first came out.
but yeah, some questions:
so what was the Dr.'s feelings before he died?
was he mad for creating a so-called monster that killed his people?
was he just like, "enh. can't bake a cake without breaking a few eggs, next time i'll make a better monster."?
did the Frankestein monster understand why he was being hunted?
was the captain like, "damn, this has been a fucked up day"?

I love that book. I've read it a bunch.
But yeah, Frankenstein chases the Monster to the Arctic. Frankenstein dies there, and the Monster implies that he's going to go kill himself; his hatred for his creator was all that kept him alive.
Here's a cover I made for the book a ways back:

The Monster, to torment Frankenstein, killed off his family and his fiancée (which were one and the same, since he married his cousin), so Frankenstein had no intention of ever creating another. He was near insane with guilt.
Actually, the Monster promised to stop killing Victor's loved ones if he would make a female Monster to give him some companionship. Frankenstein wouldn't do it.
did the Frankestein monster understand why he was being hunted? Absolutely, it was intentional. The Monster in the book is very intelligent and even eloquent, not the "grr! grhar! Fire BAD!" guy that the movies always show.
was the captain like, "damn, this has been a fucked up day"?
Pretty much. Although, he was another rich guy following his own odd dream, and identified with Victor so much that the experience probably changed his life.

so did Mary Shelley state an opinion with the story?
or was she just saying, "that's what it is. you decide for yourself."?

Shouldn't being curious be enough reason for you to read it? That's how I choose to read books.
Also, what would you rather read?

not necessarily.
5 i'd rather read a book on Javascript or something.
10 so since i'm curious about Frankenstein, i can ask about it
15 else you're curious about Javascript, you can ask about it
20 else if you're curious about Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, you can ask about it
25 else if you're curious about non-repro blue, you can ask about it
30 else if goto 10
Alll right.
From what I hear, you're missing out.

shelley and her husband and a couple of thier literary friends would get together to tell ghost stories to one another.
this story was inspired by a dream she had and then later retold to the group and then later turned into her novel.

read this entry on wikipedea:

the story of how the novel was created is just as interesting as the novel itself.
so did Mary Shelley state an opinion with the story?
or was she just saying, "that's what it is. you decide for yourself."?
The subtitle for the book the : THE MODERN PROMETHIUS
Shelley was pretty much saying that man shouldn't try to be god.

i loved this book.
i have read it a couple times. it is so much better than any of the film adaptations. the one w/deniro and branagh is the closest to the book.
that being said my favorite film adaptation of the frankenstein story is Young Frankenstein.

But he and it are popular for different reasons.
I think you should have a more open mind. Most classics are really, very, extremely good. Those are all I read nowadays.
What are you reading anyway?
