I haven't picked it up yet, but a friend of mine who is also a huge CT fan tells me that their latest CD, Rockford is the best thing they've done since Dream Police. Has anybody here heard it and care to comment one way or the other?

I'll probably see if I can listen to it before buying it...

Cheap Trick rules. They come to Richmond almost every summer.

Saw them live once. They opened for Motley Crue, which seemed a little weird...

I'd hope it was better than Dream Police, since Dream Police wasn't well-received critically at the time. I do love those guys, though. A couple of nights ago I was watching Daddy Day Care, and they show up midway through playing at a carnival. God, they've gotten old.

I remember an interview they gave once in the early 90s where Rick Nielsen admitted that they consciously chose to make bad, bland, lifeless, creatively bankrupt albums in the 80s when they were under contract to CBS Records. They didn't like the way CBS treated them, so they decided to focus all their energy on being a great live album that made crap records so as to maximize the success for their tours at the expense of record sales. That's commitment!

Actually it did get decent reviews, the feeling was that it wouldn't earn the recognition it deserved due to the success of "At Budokan".

Loved their cover of "Don't Be Cruel." MTV played the shit out of it.

Does a $20 Dollar Blowjob from a Hooker in Vancouver Count?

I like it a lot, but I'm not familiar with the first two albums so I don't know how it compares.

Heh.

I just recalled that my friend John's wife is from Rockford and used to babysit Rick's kids.

I heard them perform some of their stuff live on a radio show a while back for the new album and it was pretty good I thought.

Last year for WWPhilly they were staying in the same hotel I was. I rode in the elevator with several of them and they were pretty cool guys to chat with.

Their official fan club is in Brooklyn. Both places that I have rental mailboxes at happen to be where they receive mail too. Maybe if I hang out there all week, I could spot them...

Growing up in Chicago during their rise to fame made me a fan. They came up just a few years after Styx REO Speedwagon and Survivor( and were always the best of that foresome).

they get extra points for jamming with John Lennon on I'm Losing You.

Yes it was funny, because it's an established fact that no hooker in Vancouver is worth $20

I think Chris Isaak performed "I Want You to Want Me" on one of the talk shows last night. Sounded cool.

Rock stars don't age so well.On the other hand, Rick Nielsen gets cooler looking as he ages, perhaps because he always looked like a big nerd to begin with.

It's ironic that the two nerds (Rick & Bun) are now the cooler looking of the two, at least in that photo.
