Had my first 5k event today. It was for the Komen "Race for the Cure" breast cancer research. We found out that today's event had enough people to be considered the largest in the country, so good for us mid-west folks. It was uphill most of the way, so I couldn't run all of it, but I did finish at just over 40 minutes. That was running about 2 miles of the 3.1.

It was touching seeing all of the "In Memory Of" and "In Celebration Of" tags on people's numbers. I wore a "In Celebration Of" for my cousin who is 4 years removed from Breast Cancer, of course now she was just diagnosed with Pancreatic, so it was bitter-sweet to wear the tag.

Anyone else take part in this around the country?

I was at the Mall of America race a couple of weeks ago. These are great events.

It was awesome. There was this lady who was 101 years old being pushed by her grandaugher in the wheelschair portion. The grandmother is 50 years removed from surviving cancer.

What was awesome was at the top of the first hill, I had to stop for a bit. Now this isn't exactly what I saw, but it's pretty damned close and was one of the most amazing scenes in my life.

I think that's the preview audience for "Snakes On A Plane" making a mass exodus from the screening.

Good for you. I've ran the past 4 here in Indianapolis (I started running in 2003). My first one, I ran in 30 minutes. Now 60 pounds lighter, I ran it in like 19 minutes. It was hard this year, because I ran that one, and the next day, ran a 10 mile race (I had to, I needed one more long run of more than 9 miles before the Indianapolis 500 Festival Mini Marathon).

19 minutes? Good god! The winner this year posted a time of just over 15 minutes.

Maybe in a few years I can get to that point.
