Characters on TV say these two things a lot:

"There's no time to explain." or "I'll explain later."

And,

"Look, I know this is hard for you, but...."

What else?

Oh, you changed it! "Wait, I can explain" is a GREAT one.

Also, everything is prefaced with a commanding, "Look..." I don't think I've ever said that to anyone. "Look, I know you're upset about what happened today, but you..." etc. It's so demanding. "Focus here, on the way I'm about to circumvent your feelings and get you to use your brain to solve the current problem."

I want to work in a writers room so I can make fun of the writers who use these phrases.

I thought you already wrote that one.

That's a good one (in that it's baaaad)

Here's one I hate:

"I want _____. And I want it now."

Commercials are always "new and improved" and "maximum strength"

TV Shows how about "We really need to talk about this"

Classic hallmarks of a truly bad script

"But don't you see? blah blah blah" (filler line for exposition they can't put in anywhere else)

"But there's one thing I still don't understand..." (lazy way of tying up loose ends after the climax)

"All my life I've wanted..." (crappy, sentimental filler moment to add depth to a character by stating his motivation and eat up time)

Pointing at a map: "We'll go in here, here and here and block this access tunnel here etc. etc." (business added to make the character look authoritarian when in real life, anyone in that position would be much more clear to make sure the information is correct)

"Don't be stupid!" (this one is especially bad when delivered to a friend of a character. When was the last time your friend said that to you without you getting really upset?)

Little girls singing nursery rhymes to make a scene "creepy". So overdone.

wait, i tell my friend in real life not to be stupid all the time, but that is cause they are doing idiotic things with their lives.

The word "journey." It's mostly a reality TV show thing, but still...

And as much as I love '24,' I think they've used EVERY phrase quoted in this thread so far. ::sigh::

Upon arrival at a crime scene, "What've we got?" (also overused when someone's wheeled into an ER)

"Don't you die on me!!"

"Not on my watch."

I barely watch TV at all, but my girlfriend is addicted to CSI and all it has spawned. All of those shows seem to have a guy/girl that always quotes some old philosopher or something similar.

I can't remember how many times he's said that on Lost.

"I know that now." Usually after the moral has been delivered, or the character's had a huge revelation.

As in, "It wasn't that Mom hated me - I know that now."

"There's no time for backup!" - Does that EVER happen in real life? They'll wait forEVER until they got a bajillion agents ready, THEN they finally move in.
