View Full Version : It's bad enough that there won't be THING any more - now I can't get SHE-HULK either?

EDIT: I got a copy a couple of hours ago; I was in a different store with perfect timing as it was just released from somebody's standing order. Thanks for your help, everyone, I'm sorry to have troubled you like this.

I have been an avid follower of Dan Slott's work since the middle of last year, when having finished enjoying his hugely entertaining Spider-Man/Human Torch series I went into the comic shop and was fortunate to be able to snap up the first three issues of the GLA series, which I found to be the best comic book series I had read in a long time (and it's still up there). I then blindly stuck She-Hulk and Thing on my standing order, before the new series of each had even been launched, and after getting the She-Hulk vol 1 collections for Christmas, had no difficulty in declaring it my favourite series currently being published. The only Slott book I've missed over the past year was Big Max, and that's simply because the shop never got any in, even though they assure me it's still on order.

For months I have been anticipating #8, following Dan Slott's frequent plugging for the "big event" that particular issue in every venue he speaks in. Last Thursday, new comics day in the UK, I had an exam that day which meant I was unable to get to the comic shop in the morning as I might usually do. This did not concern me though as I had a standing order on my favourite books with them, so in my eagerness I sped over there as soon as my exam finished that afternoon only to find... they'd sold out of She-Hulk, and hadn't kept enough behind the counter to fill up their standing orders, so they allocated, and I was unlucky. And what's more, Diamond UK apparently didn't get sent enough from America, and now they have sold out, so there are no copies available anywhere in the UK and my shop won't be getting any more.

If they stuck me on a desert island and told me the only entertainment I would be allowed is a comic-in-a-bottle subscription to just one book, it would undoubtedly be She-Hulk. So naturally, even though I'm thrilled that She-Hulk has become so successful, I'm a bit upset that its success comes at the cost of my own copy to read. And the impression I get is that there are copies available in shops in the States, they're just not coming over here. Honestly, it is another compelling reason to switch to TPBs only in the long-run.

Does anyone have access to a spare copy of #8 they can sell me at a reasonable price? (And perhaps Big Max while you're at it? :))

She-Hulk is listed as "not in stock" over at Diamond US. That means it probably could be sold-out (being a CW tie-in).

Maybe our store has copies left but we are located in Germany. Could be one expensive issue. :(
I think snatching it from eBay UK or ordering it from Forbidden Planet should be much more cheaper. :)
Good luck in finding it - it's one hell of a story. :)

Wait a second. I know my comic book shop is going to be re-ordering She-Hulk #8 or at least will try to. Why can't your shop do the same?

They say they did (in fact they say they didn't get in as many as they ordered; they were short-shipped by Diamond) and that Diamond UK has sold out.

In other words, Marvel is not LETTING stores re-order this book, even if Diamond erroneously assumed they would be ordering less?

I don't really know but it sounds like Diamond isn't processing its orders properly, and meeting all demand to its US clients whilst giving the UK whatever they have after that. I don't think it has anything to do with Marvel itself, beyond its publication of what I can only assume is an excellent product that everybody wants... and the so-called "print-to-order" policy, a policy which always made sense to me.

That's a damned shame - I was fortunate enough to find a store that'd order and hold a copy for me (a week later, but beggars can't be choosers), but it was maddening to go into my usual place on shipment day and see not a single She-Hulk on the shelves, especially in the aftermath of The Thing's cancellation due to 'poor sales'. I figured having a Civil War tie-in so early in the event's lifespan, when people will be all enthusiastic and likely eager for anything with 'CW' on it whether it's their usual book or not, would be a great opportunity to get new readers - I hope the delay hasn't cost the book too many of those.

Last time I was in at the stores, they still had a couple of copies on shelf from the re-order - when I go to pick up this week's haul in a couple of days, if there's still one there I'll get it and mail it to you. I can't promise there'll be one to buy, so if you get another offer in the meantime, take it - worst case scenario, I end up with two copies of #8, and I can live with that just fine
