For the second time ever, and the first time in six months.
I'm really, really bad at it.
However, I plan to make it a regular thing to get rid of that pesky 2005 weight. Any regular joggers have any advice to make the experience a bit more bearable?

Music Music Music. Also I tend to go near dusk, when it's much cooler out. Try not to get hit by cars too.

Yeah, I have an MP3 player I take with me. I go late-ish at night, because that's when I have time. Also, I'm self-concious. I just run around my block, though, so I don't cross any streets.

Yeah, water throughout the day before jogging, then something like gatorade or powerade afterwards.

Start slow, don't try to do too much distance too quickly.
How much are you looking to do?

I like to chew gum. Feels like my mouth doesn't get dry. And I also like to go on a path through the woods when possible. Trees and shade, running on dirt... makes the whole experience better for me.

Right now I'm at about one lap around the block.
That's about five minutes going very, very slow.
I'm amazingly out of shape.
Take a dump before a long jog, because after you get done, you will poop napalm.

As am I.. Don't worry about speed right now. The most important thing is to get good shoes, if you can swing it go to a runners shop and have them fit you.
I worked with this program http://www.runningplanet.com/articles/article_detail.asp?article_id=340
and it's working well for me, my wife just finished the program and is running two miles non-stop now. She had trouble running 30seconds when we started.

there are a lot of things to make it bearable, almost enjoyable.
Right shoes / cushioning
music
breathing correctly
posture
food/fuel
stretching
sunblock
hydrating
pacing

And don't listen to Taki, she's skinny and has no idea about the plight of the fat-man.

Get an MP3 player and download some good podcasts and music. I listen to a radio show in Philly, Preston and Steve. It's really funny, and incentive to do something that doesn't require thought, like exercise, just to listen to it.

I was once a skinny non-athletic weakling. Jogging is hard on just about anyone who's not in shape, I remember those months in the beginning... they were quite hard.
