This is the issue you've been waiting for gamma-fans! Awesome Andy takes a stand! Pug's finally makes his move! And you'll NEVER see this ending coming!

I am so loving this! The Man-Wolf is my favorite comics character and I've been quietly hoping that the Jen/John romance was moving in this direction since it began. I know most fans are still rooting for Jen and Pug to hook up, but I think Jen and John are a much better match. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
Although I can't say that I'm fond of the cover. Shulkie looks fine, but the Man-Wolf's really off model. Granted that he's one of those characters that every artist draws differently, but he's always looked much more wolflike than this.
One thing that concerns me is that there's no artist listed in the solicit. Is that an oversight or will Paul Smith not be handling the art chores for this issue? And if he's not, do we have any word yet on who will be?

Me too! I understand why people root for Pug to be with Jen--people love to root for unrequited love to work out--but sof ar we haven't seen any indication that Jen would be interested in Pug, or that they would work as a couple (not that Jen and John have been fully functional lately, before Eros stepped in...but you get my point).

I'd say that was done *specifically* for this cover, to be in the style of the painting the image is based on, rather than an actual indication of what Man-Wolf is gonna look like. The cover to #10 has a more traditional looking Man-Wolf.

The solicit says the artist is 'to be announced'. So it sounds like Marvel doesn't know who is doing it yet (or they have a special guest artist in mind, whom they don't want to reveal yet). Presumably Smith just needed an issue off, so it is a fill-in...I'd be surprised if he was actually off the book after only 3 issues.

I loooove the American Gothic cover idea, and whoever thought of it (presumably Horn?) is a genius - like a lot of the She-Hulk covers it's a work in itself, not just a promo pic for what's inside, but this one really trumps the others (even the awesome Jen-as-Justice cover). Gotta buy two of that issue, so I can put one in a frame and still have the other one to read. The depiction of Man-Wolf makes me giggle every time I look at him, but Jen really shines - not just that she's sexy as all get out (as usual), but I adore the obvious care and attention to detail Greg Horn put into her, both in replicating the original painting, and deliberately screwing with it. If only Jen were looking at Man-Wolf, instead of straight ahead... but that's Horn's choice, and damn but I am not going to argue with the man after seeing this. Kudos.
Odd coincidence: just a couple of days ago I picked up The Art of Discworld, which includes Paul Kidby's reworking of American Gothic with Miss Flitworth and Death. Weird timing, is all.
