You do know $500 will be nowhere near what you need to get a decent Mac editing system, right?

Look around, the market if flooded with non-"Intel core duo" G5 iMacs. You might be able to find one on the cheap.
Plus Lollapalooza hasn't been cool in some time.

When I was fifteen 500.00 was a shitload of money to me. Some of you might have had too much much money when you were kids if you think it isn't.

I insist you go to Chicago, aka "Prom".
You can get a Mac Mini for around $500. It's got some good power under the hood, but it certainly isn't a professional system. It's more of a student or entry level system. You'll have some performance issues if you're trying to do major music and video production on it. But still, if you have a monitor and such already, you could probably hook up a Mini on eBay for that price.
WWChicago! You already have a computer. :D
You do know that Lollapalooza and WWChi are the same weekend right? You have to do one or the other. Spending a few hours at WWChi and then running like a chicken with your head cut off to get downtown AND missing all the morning bands seems like a total rip off to me.

Lollapalooza is the music thing, yeah? If you like the bands, I'd go for that. If you went Mac-wards, I think you'd be better off saving the money up and getting one next year with the extra money you'd have.

With Lollapalooza tickets going for 130 bucks, and both events going on at the exact same time, they're making you choose between either going to the con or Lollapalooza. It fucking sucks.
But you dig Bloc Party right? You know they're gonna be in town in June. They're headlining Sunday night of the Intonation Music Festival here in Chicago on June 25. Two day passes are only 35 bucks. I'm gonna try and make it.
