Okay so i'm a little late to the party. Considering before yesterday i'd only seen exactly 1 episode ( The Train Job ) and Serenity. I enjoyed both but didn't see what all the fuss was about until now.
I started watching the show through the DVD box set and just finished watching the episode "Our Mrs. Reynolds"
Holy mother fuck what an incredible episode, I'm totally hooked. It was episode 6 at least in the DVD order and featured Captain Mal getting married to a local girl unwittingly.
I won't spoil the episode but christ on a crutch what a fakeout, brilliantly done and i'm going to be glued to my TV watching the remaining episodes.
Thanks to all the fans who recommended the show and count me in as another Browncoat.

I agree! I bought the DVD set about two weeks ago. I watched the last episode last night and wanted to cry because there are no more to watch.
I don't know why I didn't know about this when it was on TV.

I knew I was going to watch the whole season after "Shindig". After "Out of Gas," I knew that I was going to buy my own copy.

Fantastic series. Kalee is the most addorbale character in TV history.

Yeah Shindig was a great episode too.
I now have a lifelong crush on Morena Baccarin
and a manly strictly heterosexual love for Nathan Fillion.
One question though on the DVD's they list The Aired dates and man they're totally fucked up and out of order!
I recall people mentioning that Fox shuffled the Pilot episode out and putting in Episode 2 instead which is the 1 episode i watched when it premiered way back in 2002 but i had no idea the other eps were aired so out of order like this.
Fox Really did fuck this show over:sad:

NBC did the same thing to Homicide -- airing episodes out of order.

And didn't FOX put the show on Fridays? Jesus, it's like they wanted Firefly to fail.
Wait until you finish the series and the movie and you just crave more more MORE but there will NEVER be more and you can turn into one of those bitter people that doesn't understand the business of entertainment and will hold a grudge against FOX forever for cancelling in the show when they just needed to give it 2 more seasons and lose millions more dollars to help it find an audience blah blah blah.
I liked teh show, too, but I was in no rush to get into a series I'd only get to see 13 episodes of.

FOX will forever try to capture the Friday timeslot like they did with X-Files. Until they realize that Friday night TV is dead, plenty of shows are going to be fucked from the beginning.
And didn't FOX put the show on Fridays? Jesus, it's like they wanted Firefly to fail. Fox WANTED it to fail. Fox LIKES losing money. Makes perfect sense.
You know, if Fox wanted it to fail... they wouldn't have produced the show.

I didn't mean it that way. I meant that it was really stupid of them to put it on Friday cause any show that gets a Friday timeslot dies.

Fantastic series. Kalee is the most addorbale character in TV history.
And, if you think about it, the horniest- both her reason for ending up on the ship and her motivation for staying alive in the movie revolve around sex.
I found that funny.
I didn't mean it that way. I meant that it was really stupid of them to put it on Friday cause any show that gets a Friday timeslot dies.
There are people, though, that actually think networks throw millions of dollars at a show that they don't want to succeed.

I wouldn't be surprised, actually, if the people in charge of development and the people in charge of programming weren't exactly on the same page.

Just watched 2 More episodes # 8 and 9 "Out Of Gas and Ariel"
Out Of Gas with the flashbacks of Mal buying the ship and meeting the crew along with the story of the crew being forced to abandon ship was brilliant.
Ariel with the crews little Ocean's 11esque heist was fun as hell and Jaynes betrayal of Simon and River added a lot as well.
Sniff only 5 more episodes to go:(

I saw the movie when it came out on DVD. After that i bought the Firefly box set and just finally started watching it ( Unemployment does have some advantages).
When the show was on TV i only saw the "Premiere" episode on Fox way back when.

Yet is still a distant 2nd to what Mal's "Wife" pulled just 3 episodes earlier!
My jaw hit the fucking floor in that episode.

There are ways to make money this way. It's not as dumb as you might think. Isn't that the plot of "The Producers" too?
Look at what they did to the Tick. Fox put it against Firends and Survivor and then were surprised when it had low ratings (same thing CBS did with The Flash). Then they started airing the last few episodes on different days, in a different time slot (just like CBS did with Flash). Then they said ratings were too low and cancelled it (just like CBS did with Flash).
As for Firefly/Serenity -- I thought this series looked stupid when they first aired it. The commercials turned me off. I was never a fan of Buffy, so when a friend kept raving about it and telling me I had to watch it, I finally did and LOVED IT!
Out of Gas is the BEST!!!

Wow - what a coincidence. I just saw the first 2 episodes this weekend. It's definitely interesting and seems to be very daring with all the sets and effects for FOX. It was on FOX, right? I'm curious how much they delve into the backstory of some of these characters considering they only had 1 year.
By the way, did Serenity kill the franchise? Is it likely Whedon continues this story?

Serenity was a damn good movie but it didn't exactly set the world on fire in terms of Box Office receipts.
I doubt we'll see another one.

I don't think Fox wanted Firefly to fail but I do think that they didn't 'get' the show and expected it to fail. And with that expectation of failure, they decided to throw it on Friday and pick out the episodes they thought would work.
I hold little hope that we'll ever see Firefly on the big, or small, screen ever again. I'd love to see more but I think Joss has thrown in the towel.
And yes, Morena is an incredible hottie.

If everyone that loved the show when they saw it on DVD (myself included) had watched this while it was on, it would have been a huge hit for Fox.
Given it's DVD sales and the fact that new fans are constantly finding it even years later, I think given some nurturing treatment by Fox, it COULD have been the new X-Files for the network. I think the main problem was it was produced just a few years too early. If it had come out last year or so when the reality trend finally started to die, it might have had an easier time finding it's audience. I put the Serenity two-parter up there with the first episode of Lost in terms of being able to hook folks and introducing a large cast in a stellar fashion.

I love the first 2 hour episode but Fox sure as hell didn't!, since they didn't bother showing it until 3 months after the show premiered!
Turned out to be the Final Episode broadcast too, Wow that makes a lot of sense the first episode is the last as well.
Way to go Fox:cry:

Mine was an "I was wrong about it" thread, about the time Serenity came out. I blew Firefly off because I don't like Whedons other 2 series and lumped this one in with it. I was very impressed when I finally gave it a chance.

2 more episodes watched, this time it was "War Stories and Trash" I loved them both but i adored Trash with Mal's wife Saffron making her return was just more brilliant stuff.
You could tell Joss and the other writers really liked the actress who played Saffron and she would have been a recurring character if the show continued. Sniff only 3 more eps to go:(
