Right now they're playing old WNEW bits on XM202, then at 9AM there's an announcement coming on the FreeFM stations as well as XM.

This sounds about right. Just can't see it working long term - the idiocy at CBS will be intolerable for O&A.

Here's the Press Release:
CBS, XM Announce Opie And Anthony Deal
It's now official, as CBS RADIO issues its press release confirming what ALL ACCESS was first to confirm on FRIDAY (4/21), the return of OPIE AND ANTHONY to terrestrial radio on WEDNESDAY (4/26) to replace the departed DAVID LEE ROTH show.
The show will air on CBS stations in six markets 6-9a (ET), simulcast with XM (in an uncensored form), and, as ALL ACCESS was the first to report, in afternoons 3-6p (ET) on WXRK (92.3 K-ROCK)/CLEVELAND. The CBS show will be streamed on the Internet feeds of WFNY-F (92.3 FREE FM)/NEW YORK, WYSP (94.1 FREE FM)/PHILADELPHIA, and KLLI (LIVE 105.3 FREE FM)/DALLAS. GREGG "OPIE" HUGHES and ANTHONY CUMIA will then head for their XM studio for a two-hour uncensored show 9-11a (ET).
In CBS' official press release, OPIE is quoted as saying “with the combination of XM and CBS RADIO, we now have the best gig in the business. The O & A Show is going to be bigger and better than ever.” A quote attributed to ANTHONY CUMIA says “we’ll now be able to reach millions of new fans and old fans with our new morning show on CBS while offering our loyal XM listeners an uncut show and two extra hours that will only be available on XM.” No quotes were attributed to sidekick JIM NORTON.
CBS Chairman/CEO JOEL HOLLANDER's official quote says that “OPIE AND ANTHONY have proven their determination to succeed in this business, and have a relationship with their audience that is second to none in the industry. CBS RADIO is well known for having among its portfolio some of the best brands in radio, and it’s great to have O&A among that stable again. Loyal listeners of O&A have grown accustomed to a show that’s real and entertaining. As we move forward, we do so with confidence that this new enterprise will continue in that same spirit.”
And XM's Pres./CEO HUGH PANERO added that “XM’s agreement with CBS RADIO is a big win for everyone. OPIE AND ANTHONY will now reach millions of new listeners and will continue to entertain the more than 6.5 million XM subscribers who have made their exclusive show on XM one of our most popular. XM is committed to creating the best content in radio and today’s announcement is an example of how we’re able to leverage it in a variety of ways that help build our business.”
Besides WFNY-F, WYSP, KLLI, and WXRK, the CBS show will air on WPBX (BUZZ 103.1)/WEST PALM BEACH, WRKZ (93.7 K-ROCK)/PITTSBURGH, and WBCN/BOSTON.
O&A were at one time syndicated on 22 stations before they were fired by CBS' predecessor INFINITY in AUGUST 2002 after the infamous "Sex for SAM III" incident in which a couple competing in the promotion tried to have sex in ST. PATRICK'S CATHEDRAL; the show relaunched on XM on OCTOBER 4, 2004. ALL ACCESS has learned that syndication rights will remain with O&A and their agent ROBERT EATMAN.

“OPIE AND ANTHONY” MOVE TO CBS RADIO
Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on news reports about a pending move by CBS Radio to hire radio talk-show hosts “Opie and Anthony”:
“After I lashed out against ‘Opie and Anthony’ for providing an on-air account of a sexual stunt in St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 2002, they were fired by Infinity Broadcasting, the CBS Radio outlet. Once they were dumped, I withdrew the complaint that I had filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and asked the FCC to drop its investigation. On August 5, 2004, I issued a news release about the decision of XM Satellite Radio to pick up the duo beginning October 4. At that time I said, ‘We wish Opie and Anthony well and trust they have learned their lesson.’ Now CBS Radio is set to bring them back on its Free-FM outlets.
“To those who say ‘you can’t go home again,’ I say nonsense: In the year-and-a-half that Opie and Anthony have been on XM Satellite, not a single complaint has reached our office about anything they’ve said. Indeed, when the two shock jocks were picked up by XM, their producer called one morning and asked if I would go on the air with them. Though I had some reservations, I said yes, and was immediately put through. They made it clear that they regretted the St. Patrick’s stunt. We mixed it up for a bit and had a great time.
“In short, the Catholic League hopes Opie and Anthony have a great run on CBS Radio.”that's some pressure they're under.

More from AllAccess.com:
"In a special O&A broadcast announcement that aired at 9a (ET) today on their new morning show stations, O&A joked about sitting in HOWARD STERN's chair and about having to go out to WFNY VP/GM TOM CHIUSANO's country club to ink their deal, OPIE said, "Stupid HOWARD. This is the move ... we do both (satellite & terrestrial)." They also joked that there'd be a parade every day at 9a as they march down the street from CBS to the XM studios."
Bitching about Howard may be the worst way to regain the old Stern listener audience that CBS lost. That routine gets old fast and it's way beneath their abilities.

I think stern's material on sirius is a perfect dead aim shot of what his fans wanna hear.
I like O&A.

Yeah, see, the thing that pushed me over to buy satellite radio was that there was something truly exclusive that I couldn't get with regular radio. As much as I would bitch about regular radio, I would have still listened to Stern if that was the only way to get it.
Not sure how I would feel if Howard was simulcast, I know that listening to satellite since September, I'm never going back. I'm a Mike & Mike fan for ESPN radio and when I lived in Cleveland we would only get the first three hours. Now I can get the full 4 hours. I don't even listen to Jim Rome anymore and am praying he eventually goes on Sirius too so I can get him in the rotation.
I'm glad O&A are not here in Detroit. Not that it matters because I don't listen to regular radio. I believe the Howard replacement here is Rover and I've yet to even listen to him one minute. Sirius is a god send, XM is too for those subscribers, and I'm never going back.

Actually it was four hours.
Don't get me wrong, I think xm listeners are getting the short end here. They are getting half of the exclusive content that they used to at the same time 3 hours of the watered down (and, lets face it, it's now the "main" part of their show where the guests would probably prefer to be) version that millions of people can get for free.
Opie just made a comment that kinda shat on the xm listeners, actually. He said that the two hours of xm show is basically the cbs show with cursing. So it's no big deal for them to broadcast on cbs. I agree somewhat but that certainly doesn't make it sound like the xm listeners are getting something special. The xm listeners are their biggest fans who payed to listen. Now they get an extra hour (good thing), but three of those hours of it is available for free and not "edgy" (which Opie said wasn't a big deal).

I can't figure out the benefit to XM. If (and it's a big "if"), O&A can stay on the air and not run afoul of the FCC and the morons running CBS, it seems to me this is more of an eventual transition plan on their part to come back to terrestial radio full time where they can get a wider audience and perhaps more money than what XM's paying. XM's getting an advertising benefit of sorts but I don't see how this will add a substantial number of new subscribers - who's going to sign up just to get an extra 2 hours? If anything, the move seems geared to anger current XM subscribers. Just odd - there must be something more to this that I'm missing.

Anyway, it would be closer to correct if you stated O&A fans instead of XM. XM (like sirius) has tons of otherstations and material.
it's just them trying to get new subscribers to XM and for CBS it's them trying to get ratings. period.
I agree with this...but like with Stern there are a lot of people who bought XM for only O&A...and those people are going to be upset that they are paying for something that people are getting for free...if Howard went to a simulcast thing on free radio, I would be pissed to...mainly becasue he was one of the reasons that I got Sirius.

It is a big deal if the fans that came to XM for them want to hear an edgy show.
Well, hopefully XM has enough to offer besides O&A during those long commercial breaks. I'll tell you with NFL Radio, If Stern retired today I'd still subscribe just for that.

1) O&A wants a bigger audience. who can blame them?
2) they already did the free fm once already. do you remember when Freied (sp?) put them on when stern was on vacation? right then, they made comments about coming back to free fm.
3) i was not just repeating cause i have no thoughts of my own......during this free fm thing, i was just copy/pasting info cause no one seemed to know what was going on.
4) what about the direct TV thing? the fans got them back on! man, those 8 fans must have been hitting that redial botton alot......
5) bullshit lies? give me 1 opie b.s. lie

To XM's credit they do have good ecclectic music programming, and if you're a baseball diehard you can't beat their baseball package. And Cinemagic is a station I want for Sirius. So in respect to all of the O&A threads, there are good things on XM that's worth paying for.

Yeah no doubt. I think both need to be successful in order to push each other to providing a good product, so I do really wish both services the best. But Baseball & Cinemagic, while they are great and the only things I would want in their service, can't match what I already get with Sirius.

According to the press release on the first page of this thread O&A will air on FreeFM from 6am - 9am...then for two "exclusive" hours on XM...so where am I wrong? Either way you are getting watered down, FCC friendly show for three hours, and then two hours of the show you paid to hear on XM. That is not exclusive.
You said it USED to be 5 hours on XM only, now it's going down to 4. Other way round, and with commercials, it will stay at about 4 hours under the new system.

I can imagine that was a draw for O&A too, but an offer like this is sweet for O&A (who were not bring in people to XM by themselves--hence this deal) and they will get the apathetic radio listeners who could care less about the quality of radio, they just want something to listen to on their morning drive, but I think their overall product will suffer in the end by being in this format.

don't "big companies" own cable channels?
it didn't seem to hurt them at all.
Actually it has. The original allure of cable TV back in the day was movies with no commercials or just TV in general without commercials. Now look at it. Tons of commercials and INFOMERCIALS! I'm sorry but you should never have to pay for TV and have that on your broadcasts. Now you have to pay a premium price on top of your already expensive cable package just to get uncut movies too. I know you had to do it with HBO all along and Showtime etc. but I always understood the original intent of cable tv as programming without TV.
Cable's a laughable product these days, especially what you pay for. I know people paying on average $50 for cable TV, and up to $80-100 a month! It's just not worth it to me. I haven't watched cable TV for the last 8 years. If I really want something on cable, I wait for the DVD.

commercials on free radio doesn't equal commercials on XM... you want more show? buy XM... you don't? keep listening for free and eat the commercials.
if you wanna argue the commercial thing, argue with Howard's 2/3rds of the audience that didn't follow him and instead chose to continue listening to commercials.

haha jesus christ man- how can you use Artie in your argument? you started to make valid points and then you fudged up your whole argument by including Artie. Sure he was a listener, but he was a well established entertainer by the time he made it on to the show. he was even a guest on the show years before he was hired. You are trying way to hard to bash stern dude.

But it's not competition. It's a partnership. O&A are on both CBS and XM. Howard is only on Sirius, therefore he is promoting the competitor. Ron and Fez never mentioned XM or anything when they left terrestial. Howard basicaly turned his show into a Sirius infomercial.
And they could have stopped him at anytime...suspend him, fire him...and they did suspend him one time during that last year.

CBS is going to have problems with their lawsuit because supposedly they sat down and worked out just what he could say and what he couldn't before hand. and by the end they had him on almost 10 minutes of delay, so they could have dumped him any time he started talking about something they didn't want him to. also those two execs actually came in during his last week and congratulated him and mentioned Sirius by name (something howard couldn't do himself) and said they'd bought it.
Howard's only problem is they apparently did warn him a couple of times, and they did suspend him once for promoting something that was forthcoming on his Sirius channel.
but if Stern's lawers are even halfway decent, they'll probably still either get it thrown out or settled for next to nothing.

But Cable TV as a whole for what you're paying for? People complain all the time, "I am paying for all of these stations but can never find anything to watch."
So if your basic cable package is $40 and you're paying an additional $10 for HBO and is the biggest reason you're buying cable, you're essentially paying $50 for HBO. Sorry, I'd rather wait for the DVDs to come out of the actual shows I want. Or, I'll just copy DVDs I get from the library, better yet. AOL/Time Warner gets my money then in the end, but they're not going to get it monthly.
If Cable TV were $10 a month with all of those damn commercials and INFOMERCIALS, then I'd say Cable might be worth the money. But in its current structure, I'd say it's shit.

caller... you're right. again, stand corrected. a listener, however, I can call him (artie). He knows more about the show than anyone on the staff simply because he listened as a worker on the docks. He's a fan of the show. A listener.

My wife and I talked and said, look we are lucky if we watch 10 hours of TV.
(We have a lot of DVDs for our TV time) and if we got cable tv for let's say, the NFL ticket, I'd still only be able to watch 1 game at a time, maybe 2-3 with a new TV that does picture-in-picture or pay for another signal to split it to other TVs. And that's just not worth $120+, those Ticket packages are ridiculous!
I listen to more games than I can, I can tune into Cleveland Cavs games living in Detroit, and do my work (writing/graphic design) and school while I listen.
I would have bought the satellite radio regardless, so if I did have Sirius and Cable, when would I really find time to do both where I feel like I'm getting my money's worth.
My wife just gets angry that I get to listen to it and she has to fight for it. :D

oh, no... I totally get your argument... I'm just acting as I imagine a lawyer would. That "letterman" thing would be thrown out... or not even mentioned.
Look, I was a Howard fan until his final year on radio... he became a hype machine. He chased me away from his show by constantly bitching and complaining and not *doing* an entertaining show. Literally for an hour in the AM he'd sit there and talk about Sirius and how when he got there, we should ll follow because *there* he was going to do entertaining stuff. But meanwhile, I'm listening to an infomercial... it was horrible. I quit listening.
I tried his first week out on Sirius... it was more of the same. I gave that up.
I tried listening about a week ago... he chatted it up about being able to get aroused and wack his bag, what it tasted like, how big it was... the guy is my father's age... I can't imagine my father acting this way...
I don't find that entertaining anymore, if I ever did.
I *never* liked the stripper and whore angle he had. It's radio! I don't care about a bitch and what she looks like! Entertain me.
O&A take care of that for me. They talk about things I can get behind... including but not limited to Stern Bashing.

But those are both there as promotional tools, and it wasn't as an employee, it was as a guest/feature. His show was not supposed to be that, but he turned it into a big promotion machine. I'm assuming that's what the basis of their case is. They're saying "Yeah, he was on promoting the move on our other venues at acceptable times, but it got to the point where it was too much on the radio, especially when he's being paid to do the radio show."

Since you have a problem with O and A saying things like this do you also have a problem with Stern making bullshit claims too?
He has made bullshit claims like:
He invented MTV unplugged
He was the first radio hoast to have artists come in to a radio studio and play accoustically
He was the first radio host to feature lesbians
He invented the TV Show The Osbourns
He invented reality TV.
Opie said something in the heat of the moment at an exciting time for him, its not like it was some big claim.

It occurred to me just now that if I had XM largely for O&A, I'd be really pissed off at this. For me, I largely got Sirius because I wanted to listen to Stern - I listen from around 7:15 to 8 every day. If I catch replays at lunch or on the way home, fine - that's a bonus.
If you now told me that that the 45 minutes or so that I listen to can now be had for free on WYSP, I'd drop the Sirius - it would no longer have the value to me of being the only place to get Stern on my drive in. The fact that O&A do 2 hours uncensored later in the day wouldn't matter to me - I don't listen during that time slot and, unless the replay matched up with my regular drive home (5:45 or so) I still wouldn't be able to hear it.
I don't think this is an atypical listening situation - most listeners aren't, I would think, listening to all 4/5 hours - they're listening to a portion of it and it's the same portion every day. Yes? No?

I was pissed at first, but I thought about it. Right now I listen to two of the 4 hours every day. 7-8am on my drive to work and then 5-6pm (replay of the 9-10am portion of the show). So as long as they replay the show throughout the day like they have been I'll still hear the 7-8 hour and then I'll hear the replay of the last simulcast hour on the way home (and can then listen to the XM only portion as I'm cooking dinner).
To add to my post above:
While I mainly bought my XM for O&A, I have found a bunch of different music channels that I love (won't listen to the regular radio anymore), and they are the home of MLB (so when I'm traveling I'll be able to listen to Yankee games).
