Mr. Reed, you are the man. This book is great stuff with a bit of an old school feel. The art is fantastic and the inner dialouge of Ms Marvel is on par with Spidey's best.
I'm not an old fan of the character and I have read very little of your work, so this is straight up content admiration. Hope this book keeps going for a long time, congrats, and thanks for a great read!

Ms Marvel #2
Overall,a great step up from the last issue. This is primarily an all out action issue with Carol taking on the Brood. It turns out the Brrod are on the run from an alien called Cru.The Brood have led him there so he could attempt to channel energy from the Cavorite Crystals. But doing this would blow up half of the earth.Carol races to the military base but arrives, from what it appears to be,too late.
I bought #1 on a whim last month and I'm really surprised how cool this book is.#1 was mostly setup and talking heads.Which was good, but I wanted some action in this issue and that's exactly what I got.
Trim your pull list of crap and this badboy for some old school slam bang theatrics.
Art-4.5/5
Story/4/5
Overall- a solid 8.5/10
Keep it comin' Mr.Reed, you've made a Ms Marvel fan out of me.

***WARNING!!! This thread contains SPOILERS for MS MARVEL #2!!! If you do not want to be spoiled, please do not read any further!!! You have been warned!!!
The issue opens with a scene in Sarah Day's office, continuing the subplot of Carol's new public relations campaign, with Sarah setting up her appearance on the Super Powers tv show. I liked the 'this woman...this warrior' reference, which goes back to the first issue of the original Ms Marvel series (as well as being the name for the ultimate Carol Danvers fansite!).
The rest of the issue is basically an action packed slugfest of Carol vs the Brood, and then Carol vs Cru--the new big bad that has the Brood running scared.
Some readers complained last issue that there was too much 'talking heads'; this issue definately makes up for that by going to the other extreme. I'm guessing (and hoping) that future issues will go for more of a middle ground between the two--but in the meantime I enjoyed this issue's adrenaline rush fight scenes!
My one annoyance with this issue was the scene where the surviving civilains wonder who Ms Marvel is, and wish that someone famous had come instead.
Carol IS famous. She was a member of the Avengers--and that alone provides instant celebrity. No other superteam in the MU gets the same media attention and publicity as the Avengers. And it isn't as if Carol's time as an Avenger is something from years ago and she's been forgotten--she served from early in Busiek's run up through into Geoff Johns' run...so she was in the public eye as an Avenger up until just a few months (at most) before the team disbanded--and then she went straight into a high profile position as the superhuman head of Homeland Security for the CSA. Carol has most definately been in the public eye over the last few years of Marvel Time.
Now, I can justify this line on the basis that Carol simply is as instantly recognized as someone like Cap, Spider-Man, Hulk or the Fantastic Four. So for someone who doesn't really follow the news, she could be just another face in the crowd in photos of the Avengers. But in general, I hope we don't see more references like that. I get that Reed is pushing the idea that Carol isn't as prominent as she could/should be, and that's fine--but realistically, Carol IS famous enough in the MU that at least *someone* should have recognized her.
I enjoyed the reference to Carol's time with NASA. I am very pleased to see Reed making references to Carol's past like this. I've noticed some writers have been almost playing Carol as a rookie lately...but really, Carol is one of the most experienced heroes in the MU. Sure, her superhero careers as Ms Marvel and Warbird may be relatively short...but add to that her cosmic experience as Binary...and her pre-superhero experience as a NASA security chief, an Air Force pilot and an intelligence operative. She has more combat experience and tactical training than most supeheroes out there--so if there is anything that Carol should never be written as, its a rookie! So I am very pleased to see Reed acknowledging her past experience.
The issue ends with Cru getting his (its?) hands on a cavorite crystal, and apparently unleashing an energy pulse that could blow up the planet! I wonder if Carol's energy absorption/channelling abilities are going to be what saves the day at the start of next issue.
I look forward to seeing how this arc wraps up next issue--and learning the secret of this mysterious Cru creature. What is it? Where did it come from? What does it want?
And the biggest question of all...since the FF are supposed to cameo next issue---will we find out what happened between Carol and Johnny Storm in Vas Legas? ;)
Thanks Brian, Roberto, Jimmy, Soto and everyone else for a fun issue! See you again next month!

Merged the threads. Which has resulted in a strange Frankenstein's monster with the new thread's title, with the old thread's posts coming first.

Strange post absorbing and manipulating powers, no less... like Ms Marvel, only in a made up digital world and not hot.

This issue was better than issue 1, really nice and fun to read, loved it how she handled the Brood, with a great cover and really good art by Torre, it's nice to see that he has an unique style. Nice to see a letters page too.

Why does the name "Brian Reed" and the words "power I barely understand" fill me with so much dread? :scared:
Read issue 2 the other night and I loved it. I like this new bad guy and I love that it turned out that the Brood weren't actually invading at all. Writing and art was excellent all around :D
And that cover rocked. Anyone who thinks Cho's art is just T&A should check out his Brood.

I liked issue 2 even more than #1, which I liked more than the Giant Size issue. which I enjoyed immensely. This is a good trend!

I'm writing the letters page for issue 3 in the next day or so. If you want a shot at seeing your name imortalized in print, drop an e-mail to mheroes@marvel.com and tell Marvel what you think about the book.
Make sure to mark your letter "OKAY TO PRINT" and include your name and city.

Heh, y'know something? I think I just might :)
Maybe not for this issue, I've got a fair bit on my mind right now so I don't think I can articulate myself properly, but definitely for the next issue at the latest :D

I too liked this issue. If someone had told me that a year ago I'd be buying and enjoying Ms. Marvel I'd never have believed it.
I look forward to the next issue.
