Do you draw the figure first in blue pencil, then add the shadowing, erase the blue lines & let the shadows define the figure? Or do you just have the image in your head & draw it as is?

I remember that Mr. Maleev did the first No Man's Land book with Bob Gale (it was a special issue so not an issue of Batman or Detective). I forget if he did the first arc of the crossover or just the first special.

honestly I"m not that thrilled. I've seen other pics you have kicked more ass on.
but if you love it and more importantly the guy that bought it, then sweet.
Reminds me of a time when I got a commission from Mike McKone of Dr Doom, I totally love McKone, and I loved his Dr Doom, so I asked him to hook me up, $150 later I got a commission....I hated it. It was just not the quality that I had hoped for. I was HEARTBROKEN. It jsut looked like he phoned this one in, so I just couldnt keep it, I had to re-coup some of my loss and sold it on ebay, I took a hit, got like $90 for it, but hopefully the guy who bought it loves it.

This was a 50 bucks thing. I drew it on 12X18 piece, just cause I had the idea how to do it and didn't care about the money at the time. I liked it so much, I asked the guy to let me have it. He refused. He got a lot more than I'd usually do. It was the best thing I drew the whole weekend.

It shouldn't'. I never considered myself as a sequential artist. To me every panel is an illustration.
I have a degree in fine arts (printmaking), not in comics.

i'm sure i've told you before, but Farel Dalrymple used to include etched images into his older comics,
he'd pencil a background onto the Arches, print the foreground, and publish the page into the comic
and used to sell seriesed prints at cons for $10 a pop

that is a pretty badass print, alex. now i'm really pissed that i missed the con. out of curiosity, how'd you get the image scanned, if the guy wouldn't let you have it.
also, did you manage to make it to a dick's drive in while you were in seattle?
