Just wonding what your relationship with Greg Horn is regarding the great covers he does.

Do you give suggestions? Just give him the basic story and he goes from there? Do you get approval or anything? ... there were more questions but I can't remember em... so please fill us in on your collaboration with Horn!

And tell him he's doing a FANTASTIC job! I loved his Emma Frost covers too!

You aren't the only one. A lot of people on the 'Rama have said that Horn's covers are too cheesecake-y and turn off possible female readers because it misrepresents what the book is really about. I kinda feel this way too, but at the same time, Greg Horn does a HOT She-Hulk!

BAh... Greg Horn does awesome covers! LOL

He does poster style covers (like 95% of the rest of the books)... his most recent cover featured Starfox and She-Hulk in a court room... and when you consider what Starfox's powers are, it might be a pretty good indicator of why Jen's all over him! :D

Disclaimer:I quite like Horn's covers, but then again, I am male.

The Starfox covers are probably not a good example of why some people feel that Horn's covers misrepresent the book. Look at the cover with Jen stradling a fence and the two-gun kid looking on. What did that have to do with the story? Now all in all I would say that Horn's covers attracting the attention of adolesent males is a good thing, but you can't discount the fact that a strong female lead is just the kind of thing that might attract the attention of new female comic readers, but they are likely to not pick it up due to the overt sexual nature of some of the covers.

My wife loves the Thing comic, but I can't get her to read She-Hulk, in part because of the covers, and also the teatment of the character in other stories she has read in the past. I tell her that was bad writing, and that Mr Slott is capturing an endearing character shorn of the 'male fantasy' aspects that have belied her in the past; but with covers like the book has, I can see how she won't believe me.

I'm also a traditionalist who would prefer to see the guy from the inside draw the covers - I'd love to see a Bobillo She-Hulk cover, much the same as I used to pine after John Romita Jr covers when he did the interiors only. But that, like a full return to covers that tell you something about the story, seems an unlikely prospect. Until then, I'll continue to amass a collection of books I don't judge by their covers.

Lastly, I really don't care for the 'air-brushed photo' style of art seen on coves by Mr Horn and Mr Mayhew - that's ot what I look for in a comic. But then, it's all a matter of personal taste.

I doubt they are in a position to say publicly, but it would be fascinating to hear some Marvel writers' opinions of the covers that are used to sell their books; particularly where they bear little relation to the stories they are teling.

I had actually suggested She-Hulk to my sister and she looked at the cover and scrunched her face up - i had to tell her - "No really!"
And she liked it. My wife also didnt want to read based on the cover but she trusts me more :) She looooves She-Hulk now.

I too like the guy doing the art to do the cover a la The Thing (although i have to say Mayhews covers are superb!) - I would have loved to see a Bobillo cover as well - how awesome would that have been. And yep - i prefer he old covers where they used to actually tell you a little about the comics :P

If they let Bobillo do covers, maybe he'd stick around longer.;)

Personally, I have no idea why Bobillo was ever hired again for a second time.

As far as covers from him go, if his art turns a group of people off (as it does) then why would they showcase that art on covers?

I would like Paul Smith to do his own covers, but if not, I'm fine with the sexually explicit photo-realistic covers that we've been getting.

Which is another question for Dan... do you have any input on artists you work with?

I guess it's all a matter of personal taste. I feel that the last run of She-Hulk really fell away when Bobillo left. I will admit to being worried that the same will happen again, because Slott and Bobillo work so well together.

Plus, any artist will put some folks off, I guess - though there are those of us who think Horn must put an entire gender off.

Because he draws awesome covers?

And I guess he's leaving because he's drawing the second volume (tome) of "Anton Blake" for Casterman (written by frequent colaborateur Carlos Trillo):

True enough... my girlfriend is a "third wave" femenist (not the militant bra burning kind her mom is/was)... and she doesn't mind the covers... YES she thinks they are somewhat sexist... but that being said, she also knows that the majority of comic readers are male, covers rarely have anything to do with the interiors anyway, sex does sell and Marvel is a business wanting to make a profit... so they do what they KNOW will work.

And she said to tell you guys who have girlfriends/wives who won't try the book based on the covers to tell them NOT to judge it! She did... but I finally wore her down and she came back with the old (yet accurate!) cliche "you can't judge a book by its cover!"

Now where is Slott to answer some of these questions???

I don't know the artist, but I LOVED the covers for 7 and 8 (the scene in front of the courthouse and in the elevator). To me, these captured the feel of the comic much more than the "She-Hulk crushing something" covers that have dominated the book.

Adi Granov did covers #1-6 for volume 1, and then Mayhew did #7-12.

Well, the former gave way to the latter... but in the end it was just because she enjoys the Thing comic so darn much!

Granov did 1-4 it seems and Mayhew did the rest..
I should add that i love Pelletiers work and even though it doesnt have the same quirkiness without Bobillo its till great on a different level!

I'd rather the interior artist did the covers (now there's a novel concept). Greg Horny's covers are too T&A-ish.

I love Bobillo's stuff! He's an excellent storyteller with a unique style. I'll miss him greatly! He's what made that first trade for me. And the excellent writing too, natch.

She-Hulk #10's cover by Horn is a thing of beauty. Perhaps the best cover I've seen this year, and I love the old school "I Married a Man-Wolf"" on the cover. The Thing has great covers, but it's missing those old school attributes.

I assume it is safe to say that if Marvel is going to show the cover to issue #10 next week during the July solicitations, they will also officially release the cover to issue #9, along with the proper text solicitations? (Minus the SPOILERS words?)

Why don't we try to guess...

My guesses are bold and red

The Story: “My SPOILER with SPOILER”
Read SHE-HULK #8 yet? Bet you didn’t see THAT coming, didja? Wild, huh? Spiraling out of the end of last issue’s CIVIL WAR crossover, She-Hulk’s life will NEVER be the same again! Sure, OTHER books SAY that all the time. But when have WE ever said it over in the SHE-HULK book? Really. Trust us, WE’RE good for it.
So... After She-Hulk and JOHN JAMESON went and GOT MARRIED, it’s time to deal with the fall out! And that leads to a FIGHT with PUG!!! Miss this one, and you’ll be kicking yourself in the CENSORED for months!
32 PGS./Rated A ...$2.99

Not so sure about those last two.
