I have a close friend who is an incredible vocalist & musician. She's starting these music reviews she calls the Diva Ho-Downs. They're high energy R&B shows -- all for fun and exposure for her and her fellow singers. Anyhow, I'm helping her with art for her web site promoting the divas. They want to create these "characters" for the art based on their personalities. (They don't really dress like this.)
This is the initial character sketch of the three singers with quick Illustrator inks. These aren't refined yet, but I'm looking for comments before we move on.

I think it's looking really nice so far. There are some small anatomical issues in places. The girl on the right seems a bit too thick in the ribcage area and her arm with the microphone is positioned too low in the shoulder. If the arm is lifted like that then the shoulder lifts as well moving the whole thing more up. Also, the knees on the middle girl should be cleaned up and her thighs a bit curvier.
But since you said this is an early stage, i think it looks great and will make for a nice piece.

Thanks Adi. Yer swell.
I'm trying to balace their desire for a real cartoony style (they've even been showing me examples of manga) with something more representative, because I think what they want is too immature, for them and their audience. Oh well.
The anatomy issues? Big rib cage and skinny legs? Right as usual. It's funny, you zeroed in perfectly on issues I've had with their comments. Big ribcage=powerful voice. Skinny legs = well, a woman who wants to be seen with skinny legs (and she's got them; she's a black belt in tae kwon do too).
Thanks again.
