So, I've been picking up various late 80s DC titles like Checkmate, Suicide Squad, and Manhunter just to see what's what. You know, because some of this material has become pertinent now. Checkmate is unreadable. Suicide Squad is interesting like most things from Ostrander. But Manhunter I found pretty interesting indeed. I don't know much about Manhunter. Just enough to get me through the day. Android precourser to GLs, Paul Kirk, guy with metal mask who was killed by Eclipso, Kirk clone in Power Company, blah-blah. But I was actually reading the 80s Manhunter and it wasn't bad. Just like the new Manhunter, Shaw caught beatdowns pretty often but still fought past it to get his man. He struck me as kinda Jams Bond-ish only not quite so smooth. Anyway, my question is this. That Manhunter's main foe was an assassin named Dumas. Terrible costume. Aweful. But he seems to wear the same symbols that went on to be associated with the Order of Saint Dumas in Azrael comics. Azrael came out years after Manhunter was over and I know those comics reasonably well, but I don't recall any connection drawn back to the Dumas assassin guy. Does anyone know what, if anything, that was?
