Hi.

I just want to thank everybody for the support. To especially thank the posters who suggested giving me a home over here. And a BIG THANK YOU to Mr. Bendis for setting me up on Jinxworld! :)

It's nice to know I've got a little safe harbor... a place where I get to control the horizontal and the vertical. And I promise not to abuse that. Much. Mwah ha ha...

Hate to say it-- but I've spent a good day or two off the net-- and DANG if I didn't like it! Got LOTS of work done, got some fresh air, caught up on some important phone calls, stocked up the fridge, and so on...
Don't mean to rock the boat or anything, but seriously-- everyone should try it. It's like-- WHOA-- there's a whole world out there.

This is my first post I've made on a board ANYWHERE in the last day or two. And I'm really just doing this to say THANKS to Mr. B and hello to y'all. Didn't want you to come to a "Dan Slott Creator Board" and find... well... an absence of yours truly. A void where there should be a Slott. A Slott-free Zone. Slottnessless. Ahem. So... Here I be.

Hullo.

Okay... Well, I've poked my head out, seen my shadow, and now back for some more "internet winter". :scared:

For those not in the know, I recently took some hard hits from some very rabid "anti-fans"-- who, among other things, tried to reach outside of the virtual world and mess with my head here in the real world. And, all of this happened during a time of personal loss. Not a good mix. It's kind of soured me on the net. And I've decided to take a break for a while and focus on work, friends, family, and whatnot.

I'll still be around. And I'll be getting the word out about stuff through online interviews. But for the most part, I'm staying off the boards.

But it's nice to know that when I come back-- hopefully in time to shamelessly shill for my indie comic, BIG MAX-- well, it'll be nice to know I can come back to this comfy little cubby on the Bendis Boards. ;)

Thanks again for all the support!
See you soon.
Dan

Hey Dan, very sorry to hear about your loss and about your trouble with the trolls. If I'd seen any of it happening I would have wupped their asses for you. Dan, I'm sorry about your personal loss, and it really sucks that you had to deal with those kinds of idiots over at newsarama. Sad to say, but I've found that there seems to be more of those types in the comics fandom than in any other circles on the net, even the sports fanatics. Way too sensitive and bitter.

Don't let those types bother you. I really hope that you poke your head out to say hi as often as possible. That doesn't mean you have to live online, but your presence as an important voice who fights the good fight for old school storytelling would be sorely missed if it wasn't there.

Hey Dan, I'm sorry that you were having problems.... I think sometimes comic fans don't seem to realize that you're actually people too. The internet makes it way too easy to diss people without any accountability. I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but keep up the great work. There are plenty of us that DO appreciate the hard work you put in.

I'm glad you found a place to come and continue to interact with your readers Dan. I jumped onto a couple of boards tonight (NR and the She-Hulk board) and was shocked to see what had happened (not surprised though as I've been visiting those boards for years now, not a regular poster, but always browsing). About a year ago, I actually stopped posting at the She-Hulk site because I just couldn't trust myself to not say something in response to some of the crap that was going down in regards to your She-Hulk book. (Not to mention the fact that I used the word whiner at one point in regards to a few posters and was promptly handed the smack down by numerous people for my vicious attack! :D )

Needless to say, I totally understand your reactions, especially in this time where you've lost someone close to you. People can talk all they want about it just being the internet, but sometimes it just gets to you no matter what walls you put up.

All that crappy stuff aside, I've been meaning to sign up here for a few months now, and the fact that you have a board now, finally pushed me to do it!

Can't wait to see what you're up to next!!

And I know this means little in a time like this, but I am truly sorry to hear about your loss. My most sincere thoughts are heading your way!

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss and all the added internet shit on top of that but it's really cool to see you have a place to interact with the fans here. The Spidey/Torch mini was the first stuff of yours I had ever read and I loved it to bits. I was just thinking that its pretty rare these days that I find myself laughing out loud while reading superhero comics but I was in tears laughing reading it. It was funny, sincere and touching and you really need to write more Spidey, please!

Been loving The Thing too, even though i've only got two issues of it due to a mix up in my store. Can't wait to get my hands on the issues I'm missing.

You rock man!

Dan Slott
03-25-2006, 09:47 AM
Thank you very much, sir! I take that as the highest compliment!

About 10 years ago when I was just starting to break in, there was a time I when I was working on a WOLVERINE story for (I think) editor, Richard Ashford (might've been Terry Kavanagh)... and a SPIDER-MAN 2099 inventory issue for Joey Cavalieri.

And within a period of two weeks (without conferring with each other) both editors cut (what I felt) were the best bits out of each story. And when I pleaded with each of them to put those bits back in, both of them said the exact same thing to me:

"I'd let you get away with it if you were Peter David."

The second time it happened, I actually had a comeback prepared. I said:

"If you'd let me keep it in, I'd BE a Peter David!"

Well... THAT didn't go over well. (And that SPIDER-MAN 2099 inventory was never assigned to an artist. Ah well. Got paid for it though...)

Dingo

"I'd let you get away with it if you were Peter David."

Perhaps they were just refering to Peter David's mad Kung-fu skills.

Having heard much of this place elsewhere, I finally found the excuse to register - this board.

Dan,

You're producing some quite unusual comics that mix fun and adventure with a deft touch for serious issues - I'm thinking of the latest She-Hulk as an example. Although, it has to be said, GLA was a horrendous read - do you have any idea how close I came to spewing coke everywhere due to one of the gags in that book? It was close, I tell you! I nearly had a coke-stained sofa and comic book. ;)

Welcome Mighty Mr. Slott-

I had no idea there were anti-Slotts out there. Just searched and found the She-Hulk message board and found it crawling with people who long for the days of uninteresting run of the mill witless superhero writing. I mean you took an H-List character and gave her a classy little title that a fan of the character should be proud to call their own. Bah, the internet.

Although I bet Bendis's rogue gallery could beat yours to their bloody deaths in about ten seconds.

Finally, I am pulling your Thing as we speak and hopefully I can continue to do so well into the future.
