I was reading on Newsarama about the new Halo book from Bungie which will be published by Marvel, and what really impressed me was that Moebius and Phil Hale are doing work for it. But what really astounded me was the lack of reaction to that bit of news from the Newsarama readers. Some people seemed genuinely unaware who these artists were. OK, Phil Hale is kind of an artist's artist, and although an undisputable master, I am not terribly surprised that people at large are unaware of his work. But MOEBIUS... I am very surprised that there are self-proclaimed comic book fans out there who don't seem to know who Moebius is.
So, for you who read this thread, are you aware of Moebius and his work?
He's my all time favorite artist and I've spent the last 15 years looking up to his work.
And as a bit of trivial coincidence. About three years ago I was asked to work on a Halo 2 graphic novel by the former Dreamwave. I declined, but did do three pages for them for a sales pitch, scripted by John Ney Reiber.

I've never read anything by Moebius. I don't think I've ever heard of him either. Since your a big fan of his I will check out Halo. I've never played the game so I wouldn't have payed the book any attention otherwise.

Loved him when I was a kid in the 70s/80s and I'm looking forward to getting to know him again. I got to know him through Heavy Metal, since they were prinitng the European artists.

I sadly admit I have heard the name, but never seen his art or anything.

Moebius is the shit! Arzach is some of the coolest stuff I've ever seen, ever. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Moebius did a 2-part Silver Surfer story back in the late 80's and it was really well done. It was called "Silver Surfer: The Epic"... or something like that.
That being said, I'm a bigger fan of Phil Hale and I think his paintings are just amazing. He makes that shit look effortless, and he makes me feel like a total novice whenever I look at his work.
Any chance of you giving us a peek at those 3 Halo pages you did? ;)

Moebius' comic work is only part of the reason he's famous, and American audiences not knowing his comics doesn't surprise me that much because the only mainstream project he did in the US was the Silver Surfer story written by Stan Lee.
But, his movie design work is what he's equaly known for. He designed characters in Tron (Syd Mead did the vehicles), costumes in Alien, was the designer in Abyss, Willow and Fifth Element. All of Fifth Element is straight out of Moebius' work. These are all significant sci-fi movies of the past 30 years and he's responsible for at least a part of them. He also did a lot of other film and animation stuff outside of US.
Oh yeah, he also was the designer on Masters of the Universe, which as a movie isn't very impressive, but the design is pretty sweet. I have a book with his designs for it in it.

I used to peek at my dad's and my uncle's "fierro" magazines as a kid and the stuff I loved the most was moebious stories and art.
He's simply an amazing artist.
I also love manara but that's a different story. 8-)

Yeah, Moebius is incredible. Like I said, he's been a huge influence on me ever since I was a teenager when i discovered both his work and Bilal's.
I also love Manara as well, his erotic stuff as well, but more so his serious stuff with Hugo Pratt like Indian Summer. That is one of the finest graphic novels of all time.

the magazine "fierro" that I used to read had Bilal's stuff too, out of this world!
and regarding Manara's stuff the one that is not erotic is the best for me, I love the way he draws more than his stories.
I have a lot of Hugo Pratt's books, my dad is a crazy fan of his work, he even draws like him :D , a girl friend of mine from college had two Pratt's originals paintings at her father's house, pretty cool stuff.
"Fierro" macazine had cover done by Chichoni, have you seen stuff by him?

As for Moebius I only know that Silver Surfer book, and didn't he do design work for movies? ("The 5th Element" maybe?)
The other artist I'm not familiar with.

I dont think it's lack of interest in the team so much as lack of interest in the project. At least for me, I could care less about a comic based on a computer game, even a good one. I didn't exactly run out and buy the City of heroes book, even when they had someone like Kurt Busiek writing it... and I was way into the game at the time. Just doesn't interest me.
