Hello David et al!
I just returned from a two-week vacation in Japan! We spent a few days in Tokyo, and then we travelled around the country with our JR passes to Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajiki, Kurashiki, and Hida-Takayama. Japan is indeed a very intruiging country, with quite distinct levels of society.
I saw a Kabuki play whilst in Tokyo, and I learned of other theatre forms (Noh) and festivals. And I found that this really enhanced my read of Kabuki (I brought my Circle of Blood and Metamorphosis trades with me). A lot of elements are recognizable, and you really pulled off a futuristic Japan well!
(I really hope the Kabuki movie goes through - I think the Ainu content would be really controversial and a big eye-opener to everyone. I wanted to go to Hokkaido as well, but we didn't have the time)

I was just curious, maybe this is answerable somewhere else, but did you ever stay/study in Japan? For how long? And how has its culture/art styles affected your own work and life?
