Yeah, they really REALLY take you out of the story.

Getting excited...
civil war should be fun!
Ah ha.
And who was it that swore Cap wouldn't support it?

Yeah, that's a horrible idea. They should save that sort of stuff for the bullpen.

Okay, I've supported JMS's Spidey since it started, I never had many complaints about the run (and no, I haven't read Sins Past yet, it's one of two arcs I don't have just yet) but those editor notes are completely fucking retarded. Of all the things I've seen in a comic, thats just fucking childish. That "argument" shit pisses me the fuck off in the letters page to Uncanny X-Men, but IN the fucking comic is completely unacceptable.
Other than that major complaint, I'm looking forward to this.

Wow, Kirkhams art is great. Looks like there won't be any dropoff in art quality while during the Civil War tie ins.
Gregory

OK, THAT'S a smart way to change the costume often.

Man, that looks interesting. And I totally agree that the editor's notes thing is insane. WTF are they thinking?

Hopefuly those Editors notes will dissappear in the printed comic. Are you listening Marvel??? Make them Disappear!

I read the first looks.
They don't disappear.

"Hey, lets have some fun" maybe? :)

"Hey, lets have some fun" maybe? :)
Then they failed horribly.
Do you think all those were a good idea?
Howlett
03-15-2006, 12:13 PM
"Hey, lets have some fun" maybe? :)
As someone else said, let them have fun in the letters page or bullpen section. That stuff is completely moronic on the story itself.
This is Amazing Spider-Man, not John Byrnes She Hulk.
Ziolko

"Hey, lets have some fun" maybe? :)
So it would be okay for a movie like Harry Potter or King Kong to feature a scene where the producers and director are arguing about the direction the movie is going? Because that's fun, too. Stupid, but fun.
First, they drop the nuclear bomb on Japan. Next, it's these editor's notes! What's NEXT?!?!

Well that's surprising. I was expect Tony on the other side.

Did you like the MJ arm explanation in a previous issue?

Me too actually. Though, thinking about the cover to an upcoming Fantastic Four Civil War tie in, it makes more sense.
The cover shows Reed behind Cap and Sue behind Iron Man. I could see Reed supporting the idea, but not Sue. So it makes sense now.

Editor's notes were kinda funny, but they did pull you out of the story. Art was good and I'm interested in seeing where Civil War goes.

That was funny in a self-referential way. This was just goofy.

Yeah, thats fucking stupid.
The shit with the explaination of MJ's broken and healed arm and wink to the fanboys last issue was bad enough.
I do like that he has a cool suit (even if I think its ugly) that can do neat stuff.
But fucking why doesn't everyone else Stark knows?
And I thought Tony Stark was broke?
Howlett

Did you like the MJ arm explanation in a previous issue?
It was fine enough. I had no major complaints with it. Even them staring at the readers was bareable because it was a single, small panel.

They were funny if it was just part of the preview, but it is a little much. I'd like the hype to build to the story: now marvel is making the hype part of the story, and that's just too much

I thought that was actually quite a clever way to cover for the inconsistencies of The Other, while poking fun at the fans.

And this was one page. It's pretty much the same thing, some goofy fun. What makes one fine enough, and one "completely unacceptable"?

Editors should have covered the inconsistencies by doing thier jobs well IMO.
And I hate it when the audience infects the story. Like some of the nods Lost has been throwing in to online speculation. Takes me out of the story.

It's a fine line between funny and lame. If you succeed in mapping it out, be sure to share it with us.

If I'm 8-15, I love it.
If I'm 16-26, I hate it.
If I'm 27-33 (and I am), I love it.
Next week, I'll hate it.

One was a barely noticable panel, the other was completely taking over a page. I read that preview for the explanation to MJ's arm twice and never copped on to them staring at the fans until someone mentioned it. Then I was like "Oh fuck, they are!!" and laughed.
This however is an "argument" that takes up just about every panel on the page.
One was subtle and tolerable, this is blatant and completely annoying.

Yes, the editors should have caught that, but I think it was a clever way of dealing with it. Don't watch Lost, so can't comment on that. It's not the kind of thing I would want frequently, but this time it was pretty funny, and well-written.

Barely noticable? Subtle? They stopped and looked straight at the reader.

Wait if he can change costumes with this thing, why would he wear the Iron Spider suit at all?
Howlett

Yeah, they did. But it was still just one small, silent panel. I read fast, as do most people I know, so I, and they, barely noticed that panel. None of the guys I know even noticed it until I pointed it out. It was still annoying, but since it was tiny, it's tolerable.
The editor's notes however are all over the page, and since you have to read them to even know they're editor's notes in the first place, they interupt the flow of the story.
An editor's note to say "Check out issue such and such" is fine, it's helpful. This is not. If it had been a couple of boxes, I'd ignore it. But it's not, it's a page worth and it's ridiculous.

I don't think he can change costumes, it's just the Iron Spider looks like the old. I think?

What the fuck? One issue deep and Ron Garney's got a fill-in already? Or is this some pre-announced thing I missed? Ron is seriously > whoever that is.
"Liquid metal" suit? Why doesn't Iron Man have a "liquid metal" suit? There's no way Peter gets out of this without cancer.

Kirkham isn't bad, but I want Garney. Thankfully this is only for two issues.

Exactly. There is really no reason for Joe Q's design anymore, if Pete can just have the old look with just a thought.

Hmmm i was reading it thinking what's everyone bitching about and then i got to Page 4 . Yeah overboard.
Still i love Tony's Additions to the Costume. So Peter can change the appearance of the suit. Pretty cool idea.

Heh, I just realised that it reminds me of the suit he had in that short lived Spider-Man cartoon back around 99.
Spider-Man Unlimited I think it was? :dunno:
Not a great show (it was good but not great) but a cool enough design for the costume :)

[Dorkhat=on] The undersheath of Stark's armor actually is nanotech that he stores in the hollows of his bones. He got that in Ellis' run on Iron Man [Dorkhat=off]

I understand why they did the joke. They were trying to have some fun, while at the same time trying to drive home the notion that this whole thing is gonna devide EVERYTHING down the middle into 2 sides. They were trying to point out that this will happen to more than just the characters in the book, but also the writers, editors, and readers.
However I agree with all of you in that it reall takes you out of the story.
