Seems to me that there are not that many Game Cube or DS games published.

There are plenty of games out there, but whether you want to play 'em, that's another issue.

For the DS, I'd recommend the following:
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Mario Kart
Animal Crossing
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (going into reprint soon, so hold on if you can't find it in stores)
Trauma Center
Oendan (if you venture into import territory)
Tetris (comes out in a few weeks -- it's the best tetris game i've seen, and it features some amazing multiplayer modes)
New Super Mario Bros (hells, yeah)
Age of Empires: Age of Kings
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Meteos
WarioWare: Touched! (This isn't much of a purchase, to be fair, but it's a fun game for its part)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time
Metroid Pinball
Metroid Prime: Hunters (due out soon. Surprised me how fun this is. I was really skeptical at first, but the multiplayer made it a must for me.)
People like Nintendogs, too, but it's not my thing so much.

For the GameCube, it depends on what you like. My personal favs have been the following:
Super Smash Bros Melee
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Resident Evil 4
Soul Calibur 2 (the playable Link made this the choice for me of the three console releases)
Animal Crossing (I know, I know. What can I say, other than that I like pimpin' the AC?)
Viewtiful Joe
Metroid Prime (which Brian hates)
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance

There are others -- I mean, hell, there are three different Mario Party games for the GameCube -- and there are still some releases to come, like Odama and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but there just wasn't much in the way of non-Nintendo-developed exclusive content, it's true.\

And for what it's worth, being able to play GBA games gives the DS a bit more playability.

But (full disclosure time) I work there, and even though I play a -lot- of games, I really like the games we make. So take all that with the appropriate grain of whatever. I'm awfully fond of RPGs, and there are some spectacular ones out for the DS in Japan (and more in the works), games like Lost Magic and the remake of Final Fantasy III, is it? I expect that FF game will see a US release, and I really hope Lost Magic does as well.

Oh, what I wouldn't give to see a Dragon Quest either on the DS or the PSP, though. Ooooh... *shudder*

I literally use my SP for two games. 10 Yard Fight and Super Mario World.

Now, I have to buy a fuckin DS to be able to play one more.

I'm waiting for the DS Lite, but it's going to be so hard to wait. I really want to get Mario Kart DS, too. (And a few other games.)

I'm hoping for a DS Lite/Mario Bros pack-in thing.
