I'm listening to this guy nonstop lately, but I only have a few songs given to me by a friend. I enjoy the hell out of Please Call Me Baby, Blind Love, Downtown Train, and Martha. Knowing this, what albums do you guys recommend?

I've only just got into Waits recently. I picked up Alice and Mule Variations, which I both like very much. I'm gonna look for his older stuff soon.

Hey man, I'm a HUGE Tom Waits Fan.

I would start with the album "Nighthawks at the Diner". A "live" album (recorded live in studio with a few lucky friends).
"Blue Valentine" is also excellent.
"Small Change" and "Foreign Affairs" are wonderful.
Of newer vintage ('92) I love "Bone Machine".

Hope this helps!

You should probably pick them all up.

I now consider "Big In Japan" to be my theme music.

Everything's outstanding.

Check out the Fishing with John DVD's for even MORE reason to love Tom.

I just this week put Real Gone into my rotation. I'm liking it.

I am a Tom Waits Fanatic!

So much of Tom Waits' music is really different from everything out there and even different from albums he's done in the past. It is hard to pick out a favorite album, since each is totally awesome in it's own way. With that being said, there are a few albums, which represent the purest essence of Tom Waits to me... so I guess they are a must have:

Franks Wild Years
Raindogs
Swordfish Trombones
Small Change

Even saying just these four albums is painful, because every other album is almost a must have as well.

Thanks guys. I'm really excited about attempting to buy all of these albums. It'll be hard, but eventually it'll get done.

:D

You want Rain Dogs, goddammit!*

But get any and all of them.
