It's really quite simple. While it is unfortunate and true that the French population of Canada are at a minority and in the past have been treated poorly and unfairly. The fact of the matter is, no matter how much French Canada wants to be equal and have independence, the situation is unlikely and many people, including other Francophones see that too.

So those Where's Waldo boooks, right? Why was he always hiding in large groups of people? If he didn't want to be found he would have worn something less indentifiable... and changed his clothes occasionaly. So, if he's hiding for fun, what if nobody looked for him? How would he know that? How would he realize that he didn't find a really good place to hide, it's just that nobody's looking? He could be stuck in that crowd forever!

That's the reason I won't play Hide-&-Go-Seek. If I'm too good I could die (And they'd never find my body!), and if nobody looked for me, I could suffer from delusions of grandeur. Neither one of those is a good outcome.

I will always wonder just how good I am at hiding though.

I dunno man. Bendis had it easy in some respects. DD was a minor character, getting a bit more facetime because Smith did a good first arc and Mack kept it up. But DD was still pretty small. Taking a small character and making him big isn't extremly difficult for a great writer.

But taking a big character and improving on that after the last writer goes, I think that says a lot more. Which is what Bru has done (in my opinion, of course).

Cool! I think you'd like it.

There was a series at DC but you don't need to have read that to pick up the new series. It's in the middle of a story arc right now, but the first trade can't be that far away.

i'll look at it.

anything else?

there's the Storm mini series, I love it, the story isn't that great, but it's one of the best written comics out there.
Also Ultimates, my second favorite Marvel series after Brubakers DD
Jonah Hex, a western series, really good, it's one issue stories, so you can start with any number
And Girls, but some find it mysoginist

with Fallen Angel, I preferred the Dc series over the IDW one.

Silmarillion...but then if my crappy memory is correct the unfinished tales are the non Christopher Tolkien completed Silmarillion. So ten geek points for you and some to me for mentioning it. Any mention of first or second age Middle Earth requires automatic assignment of geek points.

Cool! I think you'd like it.

There was a series at DC but you don't need to have read that to pick up the new series. It's in the middle of a story arc right now, but the first trade can't be that far away.

I've liked almost everything Peter David has written. I didn't read his Spike series though, I just can't get into Buffy comics for some reason.

Bit of a Peter David fan myself.

His Madrox mini was the best mini of last year. Fantastic read.

Shadows falling , baby , we stand alone
Out on the street anybody you meet got a heartache of their own
Make it a crime to be lonely or sad
You got a reason for livin’
You battle on with the love you’re livin’ on
You gotta be mine
We take it away
It’s gotta be night and say
Just a matter of time

And we got nothing to be guilty of
Our love will climb any mountain near or far , we are
And we never let it end
We are devotion
And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love is one in a million
Eyes can see that we got a highway to the sky
Don’t wanna hear your goodbye

Pulse’s racing , darling
How grand we are
Little by little we meet in the middle
There’s danger in the dark
Make it a crime to be out in the cold
You got a reason for livin’
You battle on with the love you’re buildin’ on
You gotta be mine
We take it away
It’s gotta be night and day
Just a matter of time

And we got nothing to be guilty of
Our love will climb and mountain near or far , we are
And we never let it end
We are devotion
And we got nothing to be sorry for
Our love is one in a million

Not like the Midwest, where just having a black cloak and a thirst for goat blood will get you into any cult meeting on a Saturday night.

Well, the odd thing is, they seem to have a lot of paperwork to wade through. And, I mean a LOT. Gone are the days where just wearing black duds and adoring that 'ole 666 would get you into the cake and punch party.

Oh, and I'm a HUGE fan of Robert McKee's STORY. You read that Brian?

Brian Reed
04-24-2006, 11:35 PM
I've never read Story. I think "Adaptation" might have ruined any chance of my ever reading it

I was a huge fan of King in high school, but I haven't read anything of his since "The Green Mile" had me screaming "I get it! He's Christ! I! FUCKING! GET! IT!"

Still, King was a huge influence on me when I was first putting fingers to keyboard. So his book was interesting in that I discovered how many things I do in similar ways to him and how many I do differently.

It was an interesting experiment to switch up how I work to see what doing things his way would accomplish. There's some things I've taken to doing (laser intinsity on one project until it's done, finishing a story and not looking at it for a week before doing any editing) and others I've left by the side of the road (just blasting straight through a story non-stop, come hell or high water and fixing it in the editing pass). It's the first "writing book" I've ever felt compelled to do that with.
