Sadly, I'm taller than most of my family, including my father.

When your husband has 8" on you (not like that, ya pervs), you tend to have to wear platforms.

isn't bowling just about show, the only thing you do is let your ball run straight, which is boring, so you make a 2-3 minute show before every shot, making fun of your adversaries, talking shit, telling jokes, etc.

this was school baseball, which means you played in court instead of outside and there were 10-15 catchers.Yeah, we have a bit of a nomenclature gap here. A catcher is a specific position in baseball, and it's the dude who squats behind the plate. The defensive postions in baseball are referred to a fielders and each postions has a specific name.

1st Baseman
2nd Baseman
Shortstop
3rd Baseman
Left Fielder
Center Fielder
Right Fielder
Pitcher
Catcher

In softball, they may use a 10th fielder, I don't know what the position is called, be they play opposite of shortstop.

What you are decribing with 10 - 15 players sounds to me like what would here be considered an informal playground game. I have never heard of school kids playing indoor baseball in the US, but then again, I have always lived in areas with mild climates.

What about dodgeball? Best. Damn. Game. Ever. Few things let you know your place better in the universe than a rubber ball upside the head at high speed. And b eing as unathletic as I was as a kid (and still am, to be fair) there was always something glorious in catching the ball thrown by the class jock (which meant he was out of the game).

They have adult kickball leagues starting up over here, and I've heard that adult dodgeball leagues are right around the corner! I'm not sure I can bring myself to join these leagues, but it's comforting to know they exist.

I loved dodgeball so much!

He knows that I have almost loving feelings for Joss Whedon because of his work (and Buffy in particular) so he wasn't sure if maybe I was blinded by that into thinking it was as good as it is, but he watched it with an open mind and really enjoyed it.

He's not allowed to smoke anymore. Wolvy is the best there is at what he does, but Joe Quesada still tells him what he can and can't do, and Joey Q. said "No smoking!", and that's that.

He keep misrepresenting his height, I think he's misinterpreting imperial measurments for metric ones. I think he's really 5' 10" in some weird metric thing. Maybe centimeters? Or decimeters! I bet it's decimeters!

I used to like the "line up against a wall while someone throws tenniss balls at you" game. Much better if you're the one throwing, crap if you got hit.

Friend of mine went to military school as a kid. He said they played that "game" with rocks instead of tennis balls.

They'd also start by putting their hands on the wall (so their backs were to the throwing player) and stick their legs out as far as they could, so when the rocks hit, you'd spasm in pain, your hands would come off the wall and you'd slam into the ground.

I was never clear on how one would go about winning this game.

this was school baseball, which means you played in court instead of outside and there were 10-15 catchers.
Wow. 15 catchers! Here we only have 1.

Your Pal, Carl
03-26-2006, 02:28 PM
Yeah, we have a bit of a nomenclature gap here.

We played an indoor game at the playground clubhouse called HomeRun Derby. There was no baserunning. If you hit a ground ball that got past all the fielders, that was a single. If you hit the wall on a bounce that was a double. Hitting the wall on a fly was a triple. Over the wall, a home run. There were about 5 players per team. It was one of the funnest playground games we had.

butts up you had to throw a tennis ball at a wall, without it bouncing before it got there.

if it hit you and bounced off of you, or if it failed to hit the wall before a bounce, you would have to run up to the wall and touch it.
if someone could make the tennis ball hit the wall before you get there, then BUTTS UP!

you would face the wall with your arms up, and the person would have to try and hit you in the ass! if they did, then you had to turn for SUNNYSIDE UP, and you were not allowed to protect your balls. then, AIM FOR THE BALLS FOR VICTORY!

that's pretty much all there is to it for BUTT'S UP!
