Hey ordained, great to see some artwork from you! Working at home I hardly ever get a chance to see other peoples work. Your stuff looks good. My advice, if you want it, is to get into some life drawing classes, they can be extremely rewarding in the long run. Concentrate on storytelling because that's what this job is all about!

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. I am planning on taking a course this summer.
So no luck on the apprenticeship, huh?:)
kidding...
Although could you throw in a good word with Dave Finch, cause he lives a couple of blocks away from me and I'm considering stalking him to get his attention.

Hey all, I guess I'll share a little bit myself. This is the finished line drawing for a Wolverine painting I'm currently doing. He's in his "Astonishing" costume, but it's a little hard to tell without any shading or color. Hope you dig it!

Thanks man! It depends on how complex it is, but I'd say around 40-80 hours or so from absolute start to finish. That wolvie drawing up there took me about a day to do.
I quit my job several months ago trying to refine my style and get some work from Marvel, but so far it's a "no go."

Yes I have throngs of marshmellow peeps chained in my basement, toiling away to create comics.

Saw this on the other forum and was mightily impressed. Now I just checked out your gallery and had to scoop my jaw up off the floor. You sir are a supertalent. How can it be that you are not getting more work than you can handle as a cover artist? That day must be close by. Your Cloak and Dagger was especially awe-inspiring. Hey thanks man! I'm showing my stuff to just about anyone who will look at it, but lightning just hasn't struck for me yet. I'm hoping my luck will change at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego. Thanks for making my day with all of your kind words buddy! ;)

Nope. I'm not rich yet, but still dreaming...;) Doing covers really suits my OCD temperment because I get to see the image thru to the final product. So I'm focusing all of my energy there. Hopefully, one day, I'll have my day in the sun.

i guess... but still, bad is bad!
Another thing to consider is that you never know how long it took someone to do a piece they post here; I've known people who spent 3 months on their 3-page submission samples! (that may be one reason no one takes them anymore)
And there's a big difference between doing several awesome pin-ups & drawing sequential pages...a BIG difference. Its a completely different process, & takes much more skill & time than even the most detailed cover.
I mean no offense to any cover artists out there; its more of an apples to oranges comparison.

I'm coming a little late to this party, but I saw this drawing and I must say it is the best Doom I've ever seen. As much as I love your style, I'm especially commenting on the redesign. I love it so much I downloaded and colored it in!
It's evolutionary: rather than ignoring what has gone before, it pays heed to it and builds on the intentions of the original Kirby design. I will confess that the classic design always struck me the right direction, but only a few unfinished steps taken in that direction.
The design suit's the character. Doom has this unique duality -- from his armor to his nation -- in utilizing the highest technology but projecting an "Old World" Teutonic facade (the contradictory nature of which which I think would speak volumes about a character but don't recall ever seeing explored in comics). The details you've added to his garments speak to those one would expect from a ruling emperor from a Eurasian region of yesteryear, especially the vaguely military shoulder treatments and the "medal." They remind one of contemporary dictators who don military uniforms and adorn themselves with merits.
I also think your subtle modifications to the armor itself is apropos. The chevron-shaped details on the fingers, gauntlets and knee joints also speak to a Middle-Age aesthetic that the "man in the iron mask" core of Doom's design shares a common origin with.
I've read that BMB is looking at using Doom in some upcoming Mighty Avengers arcs. If messageboard posts from random unknown comic geek carried any currency with decision makers, I would hereby cast my vote for your version of Doom to be adopted forthwith.
Thanks for sharing your work.

Hi Prof. Oreo
You are one really talented painter. I can't believe you don't do any children book illustrations or paintings. I love the paintings.
Your statue of Cloak and Dagger is mind blowing.
You have the stuff. Good luck and I do hope lightening strikes for you.
Please PM me, I would be interested in getting a commission from you.

I love the Green Goblin in that piece. You had simple lines and a great pose.
I like the technique on the GG a lot. The Spider-man is anatomical great and very 3D.
The Spidey - Green Goblin is by far the best of the 3.

There are some difficult angles there, photo reference? or do you just improvise while drawing?

Yeah I got knocked out late in Chesterquest, near the end....
I do use photo ref where I can but for some things where you can't find a ref, you just have to block out everything with a perspective grid.

I'm sorry. You do have a lot of talent.
I find it really hard to draw something without support... I need to have a pic (taken by myself usually), to have an idea of proportion and stuff. And the final result is never good, but at least is not extremely bad.

yeah i like the Col. better too. That was the first commission of the con, so i had more time to work on it. Actually i started it the night before, so i had something half done to work on when the floor opened that morning. The Gambit was for this really nice guy who really wanted it. By me i don't know why. Probably because my sketches were cheap. I just didnt have the time to work on it like i would have. Plus Gambit is not my favorite.

I think Colossus is more interesting simply a graphic sort of way. The metal skin can be represented in a lot of ways, for example.
How cheap was it anyway? I know it's a bit tacky to ask but since I've been drinking I can forget about my manners.
