I have seen a few different superhero rpg's in my time ... from Champions to Villians and Vigilantes to Heroes Unlimited ... they were either to cumbersome and unplayable, or filled with contraditions or limited in power level.
Marvel has also put out a few different RPG's, including that ultra crappy one with cards and stones, but there is ONE system that both captures the essence of the superhero genre, and is at the same time slight in its rules, and extremely easy to play and fast paced ... the Classic Marvel Superheroes RPG.
Nothing compares. Why anyone, especially Marvel, would bother with any other system for a superhero rpg is beyond me. And here is link to a site dedicated to the game, and containing links ot everything you would ever need top play the game, including a lively forum that ismore than capable of defining present day Marvel heroes, et al. in game terms.

I disagree. While the classic marvel rpg was great for its time, the current Mutants & Masterminds book is (in my opinion) the best superhero rpg out there right now. It's inceredibly versitile while at the same time being easy to understand and implement in a game.

I used to love, love, LOVE building characters for Champions, but man is that system slow when it comes to combat.
I like Mutants & Masterminds quite a bit, but I'm not completely sold on the latest edition.
I liked the DC Heroes game the best. It had the speed of play of the Marvel system, but much more detail.

Those may capture Marvel better.
Mutants and Masterminds is a better supers game.

I LOVED the Marvel Superheroes RPG.
Mutants and Masterminds IS better overall, but there are some flaws in the system they are still working out, IMO.

I loved that game.
I wound up combining a few systems....when Marvel was a little too simple.....but they were all always based on teh Marvel system.
You are right, it was a really cool, easy to play, game.
