These are just things I've noticed, but many of his minor (and sometimes not so minor) characters are named after real life actors/directors/artists/writers/etc...

Sgt DeFalco (USM) = Tom Defalco?
Agent Woo (USM) = John Woo?
Mr. Dini (USM) = Paul Dini?
Agent Del Toro (DD) = Benicio Del Toro?

And I can't think of any other's right now, but I know there are more.

I'm pretty sure there was an Agent Woo in the Steranko issues of Shield.

Johnny Stompando, Det. Mack, Ron Thibedau :)

Pretty much most of em are I think, which is always fun. Just a couple of issues ago in POWERS he used like six different creator names.

Yeah, he's used a lot of comic writers names in recent issues of Powers.

In Powers v2 #7, a talk show host is interviewing Geoffrey Johns of the law firm Johns, Winnick, Brubaker, and Meltzer. Later in the issue we see two officers named Hine and Kirkman.

Yeah, Bendis is a phenomenal comic book writer, but he sucks bigtime at thinking up character names. Sometimes it actually takes me out of the story, it's so bad.

Has there ever been like an Agent Whedon or something like that? Just curious since I watched recently for the first time ever a few weeks back the first episode of Firefly where there was a Private Bendis who got killed in the opening scene/battle.

Quartermain has been in Marvel forever

There was also Principal Zevad, Officer Trillian, and Mr. Ayers was one of Peter's teachers.

Right. Ultimate Quartermain is the hip, udated version of S.H.E.I.L.D. Agent Clay Quartermain who has been in the 616 Marvel universe forever. If that guy was named after Alan Quarterman I have no idea, but either way, Bendis didn't name him, therefore he has no place in your game. Good day, sir.

I SAID GOOD DAY!

Agent Woo first appeared in the regular marvel universe in 1957 in an issue of Yellow Claw. He reemerged in the Steranko Nick Fury issues of Strange Tales, starting in issue 160 from September 1967. He's not a homage to anything else.

Similarly, Clay Quartermain agent of SHIELD first appeared in the regular Marvel Universe in the Steranko Fury stories. His first appearance was in issue 163.

Bendis has used the 616 Quartermain in both Alias and Secret War, and Woo was in Secret War as well.

By the way, I only knew that these guys existed in the 616 prior to Bendis. I looked up their appearances using the Marvel Chronology Project (http://www.chronologyproject.com/).

I wish he'd stop paying homage to fellow creators in his books. They see their names in print enough as it is. I want to see Principal King of Mars or special news correspondent James Dustin in one of his books. Now THAT would be cool. :)

"wink, wink, nudge, nudge*

Do it, Bendis, do it.
