Hee Hee. This is hilarious since the guy apparently is fine, but the fact remains that our VP shot another person yesterday. Apparently the guy was wearing a wire and I've read the transcript. Here's a taste:
VP Dick Cheney: So, uh, you think they're gonna open an investigation into my leaking of classified intel to reporters to help us make the case for war in Iraq?
Harry Whittington: Well Dick, That is troubling. I would be even more concerned that they might still get ya for telling Libby to out Valerie Plame.
Cheney: Harry, why don't you go stand over by that tree. I think I see a quail.
Whittington: This tree? But I don't see any...
Cheney: IT'S COMING RIGHT FOR US!!!

The guy was injured, not killed, but if he dies I'm sure Halliburton would be more than happy to be given the no-bid funeral contract...
...a casket, service and interment would only cost us taxpayers 560 million dollars.

Yeah, maybe I might make one.
you know, im all for hunting, but cheney doesnt need to hunt to feed his family, nor does he live out in the woods. Kinda telling about a guys personality when his recreation time revolves around killing small creatures. (as opposed to his professional life which revolves around killing big ones that walk and talk :) )

If he can't kill a 78 year old man with a shotgun, Dick Cheney doesn't kill people.

It's hard to know how to properly aim a weapon when you got deferments from the draft and never had to join the military.
Where would he have learned to shoot on a yacht?

They were being carried on the shoulders of swarthy natives.

"Peppered" with Birdshot, Birdshot is a light load of pellets from a shotgun, you'd have to be pretty close to kill someone with it

I have mixed feelings on this.
On one hand, one less lawyer in the world is a GOOD thing.
On the other, I don't mind seeing this guy sue Cheney's ass off over this.

I'm both disgusted and amused to see the Republican apologists try to make it look like the victim was at fault. It's about par for the course for them to shift blame, but for something as clear as this, it's just ridiculous.
Whittington "came up from behind the vice president and the other hunter and didn't signal them or indicate to them or announce himself," Armstrong said, according to the Associated Press.
...
"The vice president was concerned," said Mary Matalin, a Cheney adviser who spoke with him yesterday morning. "He felt badly, obviously. On the other hand, he was not careless or incautious or violate any of the [rules]. He didn't do anything he wasn't supposed to do."
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/12/AR2006021200524.html
I used to go quail hunting in my less lazy days. I have never been instructed to signal where I am (aside from wearing bright fucking orange so everyone with sight is blinded by your presence). And if I ever pointed my gun, pulled the trigger, and ended up hitting someone I was hunting with, then yes, I would have been very fucking careless.

Really, this sounds like an accident that could have happened to anyone. It's one of the things that can happen when you go hunting. At least it was only a BB gun, and the guy will be fine. Could have been a lot worse.

VPs.... They'd need a bloody war to get their nerves out for chrissakes !!!
I blame it on television and boredom...
From a CNN article on this topic:
"I would shoot with Dick Cheney everywhere, anywhere, and not think twice about it," she (Katharine Armstrong owner of the ranch they were hunting on) said. But she said, "The nature of quail shooting ensures that this will happen. It goes with the turf."
link: http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/13/cheney/index.html
I think that if the nature of something "ensured" that people would get shot doing it, I wouldn't do that thing.

So who wants to go huntin?

speaking of tinfoil hat shit-
Mind control book and Cheney's hunting accident
Trance-Formation of America is a bizarre 1995 "autobiography of a victim of government mind control" that you'll see referenced a lot among the tinfoil beanie conspiracy theory set. Today, Jeff Long posted about a particularly interesting bit from the book. From Trance-Formation of America, self-published by Cathy O'Brien in September 1995:
Dick Cheney, then [assistant] White House Chief of Staff to President Ford...was the reason my family had travelled to Wyoming where I endured yet another form of brutality - his version of "A Most Dangerous Game," or human hunting.... Dick Cheney had an apparent addiction to the "thrill of the sport." He appeared obsessed with playing A Most Dangerous Game as a means of traumatizing mind control victims, as well as to satisfy his own perverse sexual kinks.

Hunting your fellow man for sport is as American as apple-gagged gimp buggering.

So...given the absurdity of how this happened and the rather lengthy delay before it they reported it, I think we can finally look forward to an era where the right is no longer able to call Kennedy a dangerous drunk without getting smacked back hard.
