I need to buy a casing for it and I don't know whether to get a 2.5 or a 3.5. I know typically laptops are 2.5 and desktops are 3.5 but I didn't know if that is universally true. The site I'm buying it from even says as much. That they do make 2.5 ones for desktops now.
So is there any way to tell? I read the hard drive itself but it doesn't mention a size.

Measure it's width.

in all likelihood it's 3.5. 2.5's really are only used in desktops when size or power is going to be an issue, like the small shuttle pcs etc. because the 2.5's are usually more expensive

You could ask it. Politely.
