Parasailing mishap kills Austin man

ROBINSON, Texas (AP) - An Austin man was killed in a parasailing accident when gusty winds snapped the towrope of his parasail and he was thrown into a tree.
James Greene, 24, was parasailing behind a tractor driven by his father, Don Greene, on Sunday afternoon when the accident occurred, said Rob Sellers, a friend of the Greene family. The accident occurred in Robinson, about nine miles southeast of Waco.
“It was just an unfortunate accident,” Robinson police Lt. Tracy O'Connor said.
Parasailing involves a vehicle or boat pulling a rider that is hitched to a parachute-like canopy known as a parasail. With speed, the parasail rises and hoists the rider into the air.
Aquatic parasailing involves boats and takes place over water. In terrestrial parasailing, a motor vehicle pulls the rider over land.
On Sunday, Don Greene was driving the tractor with his son parasailing behind, but the wind proved so strong that it lifted the tractor off the ground, Sellers said. That caused the rope holding James Greene to break and sent him free-flying through the air.
James Greene first landed on the ground, but the wind hoisted the parasail again and threw him over a fence and into a tree about 500 feet away.
